Sack production 2025 vs 2026

In 14 games last season the team registered 20 sacks good for last in the SEC and never put together back to back games with multiple sacks
In 3 games this season the team has registered 8 sacks, including multiple sacks in all of our games, with 3 coming against Arkansas.
Oklahomas offensive line has been horrendous so multiple sacks is likely in the cards again this weekend, assuming we don’t primarily play contain to make Mateer beat us with his arm which he is awful at and not let him scramble as much as possible.
Our havoc and pressure rate last season were actually really good it just didn’t translate into getting the QB to the ground even against our worst opponents. It seems they have fixed that this year.

Oklahoma apparently has a historically bad offensive line by SEC standards. Our pass rushers should get a head start with the crowd noise.
In other words, if we don't put Mateer on his arse a bunch of times on Saturday I'll begin to worry about our pass rush.

So, when you are known for being good at sacking the QB, teams go to a short passing game and the ball is gone before any rush can get to it

They cannot run the ball whatsoever, they average about 3.1 yards per rush. We are currently ranked 3rd nationally allowing 1.3 yards per rush.
We should be able to pin our ears back and make life hell for him. IMO over under with us at home should be 2.5 sacks

Just realized were 25% through the regular season, so that translates to 24 sacks, and have maybe played our worst opponents, so sacks could taper down. Anyways, I hope the trend continues.

Keep in mind that 20 from last season also included the SEC championship game and our playoff game.
I don’t think it will fall off though imo. We aren’t letting guys break contain when we seemingly have them totally locked down like it happened a lot last year.
Our secondary is also a significant step up from last season. Jones, Ellis, and Bolden have only improved and the transfer Barnes and a healthy Kyron Jones have both been extremely good. Should allow for more trust to play man and send more blitzes

Of all the stats from last year....and I am a stats guy...dead last in sacks is the most concerning. I mean, we still won the SEC, but that number needs to at least double this year. That was very un-Georgia-like last year.

I was very excited about Amaris Williams on the edge to fix the problem, but we still have some solid pass rushers.

My hope is that we unleash Zayden Walker. He barely played last Saturday for some reason. He is a missle and like very few linebackers that Georgia's ever had from a speed and natural ability to wreck shite standpoint.

You also have to consider we didn’t play starters 2nd half and weren’t doing anything crazy in the first 2 games with blitz schemes and such

Sacks are great, but if you hear Kirby talk, he seems to want pressure and disruption, which can occur, but a sack is not entered in the stats. Disrupting the timing, pocket, and passing lanes get the defense off the field.

Agreed. QB pressures are a better measure than number of sacks. Sacks are one of the most overrated stats.
