Asking an invidual person who they hate more, or who THEY personally think is a "bigger rival" is 100% and totally irrelevant to who the University of Georgia's biggest rival actually is.

Until the university takes a stance and comes out with a statement like "Georgia Tech is our official biggested rival" like Powerade is the official sports drink and Delta is the official airline, it will all be subjective.

"Georgia's biggest rival" isn't some official thing. It's just a just a bunch of individual opinions that add up, and I think it you added up all of the individual opinions, it would add up to Florida. And this backs it up.

How young are you?

i have no issue stating that i'm early 30s.

there is not a time period or age on planet earth where we need to mention ole miss, georgia southern, or kentucky as our "rivals."

We used to play Kentucky and Ole Miss every year. No different than Clemson and South Carolina. No different than Florida, Auburn, and Tech.

I disagree with the Ga Southern inclusion but I get it.
With Paul Johnson, there was a smugness that spoiled that fan base into shite.
They kind of have morphed into Ga Tech Jr.

Maybe fans older than me have different insight. But I found that GA Southern students were more often UGA fans until ol' turkey neck took over.

Look at it this way.

You are building a schedule.
Which teams do you add?

We have history. Tradition. A rivalry with Ole Miss and Kentucky.

Auburn, Florida, and Tech are real rivals.
I'd much rather games against Clemson, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Ole Miss than the rest of the SEC.
That is enough for me to put 3% on the rivalry chart. They aren't real rivals. But they sure as hell mean a lot more to me than playing Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi State, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas.

I wouldn't add GA Southern.
I can flat out say that a ton of their fans are dicks without having to address them as a rival.

Don't need no steenking survey for this.

It's very simple: hate tech.

I can't imagine any UGA fan not thinking UF is our biggest and most hated rival. Followed by Auburn and then Tech.

GT is our biggest rival through all the decades.

Personally, my most hated differ than the all-time rival reality.

1.Auburn since 2010. Nick Fairley and their smug fan celebration of his dirty shite cemented that.
They were 3rd prior to 2010.

2. Florida

3. GT

4. Clemson

5. Tenn

This is current but could be jumbled around in a decade.

But all time #1 rival is GT.

I think a lot of people confuse this. You can hate a team with a white hot passion but still acknowledge they aren't our biggest rival

Georgia Tech is our biggest rival especially residing in the same state as us. Beating them in everything means much more than fans want to acknowledge. Think about how frustrating it would be if we lost to Tech on a yearly basis giving the state of their program/university compared to ours. I’ll always see Tech as our most hated rival and Florida/Auburn number two tied in my book.

I noted that people who didn’t go to UGA seemed to not have the Tech hate as much. Probably because there are not a ton of sidewalk Tech fans. You’d have to hate yourself to be a sidewalk Tech fan in this day and age. We damn near have a generation of fans who have not seen us lose to Auburn, Tech or UF with any frequency, so the hate isn’t there.

USC, when they came on the schedule full time picked up some steam, especially with Spurrier there. Tennessee has always been a big game. Kentucky is not a big rivalry, but when they were on the schedule for all those years late in the season, I always recall it being that cold, late in the day feeling game.

In my opinion, we have to respect our elders and our traditions. UGA started Tech, so we could have some skilled laborers in Georgia. They turned out to have a little brother complex. They were typically petulant little count. They said they were going to be our bosses and then it turned out that we hired them to do work for us, but it was a good story for them. In any case, they were our in state rivals. I think the issue now is they have almost no sidewalk fans, for obvious reasons, and a lot of their grads go to work for the CCP, so we won’t feel the full effect until ww3 I guess.

not that it matters, but i did go to uga early 2010s and i don't really know why going there would have made me hate tech any more than not going there. i grew up in metro atlanta, which i would assume is also the location that would lead people to hate tech the most? but it didnt, because they suck.

we did not think about them or talk about them at all.

at some point, their mediocrity (or worse than mediocrity) is going to have an effect on how their rivalry is viewed (and it looks like it already has).

Assuming we beat Tech this year, it will be ten years in a row. It's natural for that to put a damper on any rivalry. I tend to only feel the hate for them during game week.

I went to UGA during the Spurrier years at Florida. I hate Florida 365. I don't care how many times in a row we beat them. That will be the team I hate most for the rest of my life, likely. Right place right time.

Auburn, though the rivalry hasn't been "healthy" in recent years with their struggles, was more back and forth during my formative years developing my football hate. They'd beat us, then the next year we'd beat them. I have always looked forward to that game. And there's so damn many of them around GA and ATL. That's a nice solid rivalry. And the oldest in the South.

Because if you are not in school and in Athens, you just don’t experience the games in all the sports and the history. Maybe the younger kids are looking at their phones and not experiencing it… for me, personally, I interacted with a lot of alumni who carried the hate and the stories… I had some great conversations with our UGA forefathers in my time in Athens.

Nine actually. Damn covid ruined everything, we could've already been sitting on the largest streak in the series right now otherwise.

I actually like Georgia Tech. They are a fine upstanding respectable program with fun-loving friendly fans.

The last remaining true Tech fans are a dying breed. And they are a miserable and petulant people. Their rage at Georgia’s success and superiority to them is all consuming. Where they love a Georgia loss more than even a Tech win

That being said, I like following Tech just because they’re in state. If they lose or do something embarrassing, I have a hearty laugh. If they win a game, I change the channel and don’t think about it again. This is because I’m not a rage filled impotent psychopath like old school tech fans have become. Just all around gross ugly people those fellows

It's all subjective and is in the eye of the beholder. But the Tech series doesn't seem like a big deal to me unless Tech wins, whereas I savor every win over Florida. This still gives me chillbumps.

i agree completely with that. beating florida is better than beating tech. losing to tech is worse than losing to florida, though. interesting.

another aside, and i felt compelled to post since i was kinda banging the florida drum as a bigger rival than tech.

i was tuned into like every pitch of the tech baseball game and am giddy they lost. florida just went out as well, and i am definitely satisfied, but i dont really care all that much. points for tech in the rivalry war in my mind.

Never thought of it like that, but it makes a lot of sense.
