Exactly.

We had to get rid of a HC who could not get us over the hump. This called for a transition. We put our hope in Kirby.

If we look at UGA objectively then we see a lack of talent in the trenches (generally) with talent at skill positions.

We turn a new leaf, concentrate more in the trenches, and if ole boy can't do it as OC he's fired.

It's a transition period. Keep our class intact. Make best hires we can and fine-tune as we go.

I'm saying with Pittman coaching Oline and Rocker Dline.

At least it's not Schotty

With the o line coach coming along it could work but damn this is underwhelming at the moment

We can resurrect Rig and play the Grantham game, but I was just trying to point out something positive. Bray threw for 300/game that year.

We might as well jump don't want to deal with UGA mediocrity anymore.

I am disappoint in that hire.

I have to think that Smart got turned down by several other candidates before arriving at Chaney.

There's nothing about Chaney that would make him a top tier candidate.

Sadly, it looks like we either bungled this key hire or for some reason, no elite OC wanted to come to UGA at this time.

Not sure you understand what I meant when I said "untenable". That is not a good thing. For a new HC, consistency and stability underneath would be ideal. I don't see how having to fire the OC you just hired is a good thing and will only look/feel similar to the last Richt years where blame was passed to coordinators (sometimes rightfully).

I don't see how this can possibly be the best hire we could make. Even if Pittman wouldn't come, I'm not sure it's worth handicapping the side of the ball that your HC doesn't have experience with. If he'd done this on the defensive side, I'd feel good about it. Kirby could override in situations and ultimately rudder the defense as needed. Offensively, he'll be largely out of his element and defer to Chaney. I don't see that as a good thing, but hopefully someone can convince me that I'm wrong.

Let's ask the big questions.

With this OC:

Do you envision winning 8 to 10 games a year in the depleted but improving SEC East?

My answer - yes.

Do you envision getting to the playoffs?

My answer - no.

I can't believe I am saying this, but hell if this is the deal we should have kept Richt, Pruitt and a locked down Eason, and I CANNOT believe I am saying that.

That's fair. I want to get sold on this, I'm just having a hard time getting behind it with so many better names out there being tossed around. Retreading a 2x 'failed' OC to help turn around a struggling offense just seems like a stretch.

What I'm trying to say is that transition brings change- not always easy change. I think we got our right head coach. Does a top tier OC want to walk into a situation with maybe no QB and a young Oline at best? Some talent at RB but injury issues. I don't think that's the environment that's appealing to all.

Best hire (on the level of the CKS hire)? maybe not.
Can it work? Yes

BTW my high school football coach was one UGLY man - didn't mean he wasn't a great coach.

He's an immediate upgrade over Schotty. Leaps and bounds. NATHAN PETERMAN , remember him?? .... Followed him to Pitt and played well. I'm just gonna keep focusing on 2012 UT.

Let me do my checklist.

1. Dismiss Richt- like
2. Hire Smart- like
3. Smart coach for Bama through playoffs- not like
4. Let Pruitt go to coach alongside Our new coach for a month- not like
5. Hire a fat arse no other SEC power would hire- not like
6. Eason still up in air- not like

Yes. This ball has been rolling downhill since Smart was hired. I wanted Smart but said before he was hired that he should stay at Bama until the end of the SECCG and then be all in at UGA. Everything that has occurred since he was announced has been fricked up and that is troublesome.

Completly agree it is so frustrating as a fan to have to deal with this. First you rip our hearts outthen you give us hope and end up performing like Obama.

Stats in a weak conference at Pitt in '15 were extremely unimpressive. They avg'd 2pts more per game than we did this season.
