Per Dawg Nation -

James Coley is considered the favorite to be Georgia's next offensive coordinator.

"10 possible candidates to be the next Georgia offensive coordinator"

One name you won’t hear mentioned is Sam Pittman, Georgia’s offensive line coach. Pittman seems very content to continue to work as an offensive line coach, as he’s one of the best in the country. Whoever Georgia does end up hiring must keep Pittman on staff, given that he’s also perhaps one of the best recruiters in the country. Pittman and Chaney are very close, as the two have worked together at both Arkansas and Tennessee prior to coming to Georgia in 2016.

Dell McGee:
Jay Johnson
Dan Enos
Mike Bobo
Major Applewhite
Bryan McClendon
Matt Canada
Mark Richt
Steve Sarkisian

I would vote Enos, Bono or Applewhite.

Don’t know much about Applewhite but didn’t like any of the other candidates.

Agree. Not sure why they listed Johnson.

Just how bad will Coley be? It’s almost certain to be him. Will doing the job be different here than in Miami?

Only know about Coley through what DN stated in the article. But from what the one paragraph in the article states, it seems Pittman may have a say in the hiring. We need to keep him at all cost.

Applewhite would be such an uninspiring hire.

Coley would be very bad. Downgrade or no change from Pittman.

Which is kinda where I was leading with that. Could some of Miami’s woes under him have simply been related to the lack of talent there in recent years?

That isn't much of an endorsement for Coley. Pretty much any half decent OC should be able to perform above their mean when they have a stacked roster of 4 and 5 star guys. I want someone who can do better than half decent regardless of the roster. Give me someone innovative and adaptable that can thrive with any roster, especially a stacked one.

Would Enos and Pittman be able to co-exist in the same program?

Bingo. I think of Chris Peterson when he was at Boise State, or Patterson at TCU when I conjure up images of folks doing more with less.

not even a remote possibility - shameful that they even have him on the list

Mike Bobo

he would be the guy 100% if he were not a head coach already

he has not done a great job at CO State; he walked into a pretty good situation and the Rams have regressed under him

Doubt he lasts much longer; whenever he is let go (assuming that he does not turn things around this year) SOMEBODY is going to get a hell of a deal bringing him in as OC

I just hope it winds up being us

Bobo is one of the best OCs in the country, but it does not look like he is cut out to be the head guy

Bobo just turned down a $100k raise, per some of the beat reporters. Told CSU he didn't hold up his end of the bargain, going 3-9. Good guy.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. UGA under Smart is all about physicality and imposing your will. He's not taking schematic risks given that he generally has a personnel advantage.

I thought they were very close and would want to work together, but I could be off on that. Regardless, Enos is getting promoted to OC at Bama so I don't see that being a possibility here in Athens any time soon.
