Stetson was buried on the depth chart behind Justin Fields, Jake Fromm, D'wan Mathis, Jamie Newman and JT Daniels. He would have never sniffed the starting job if not for the transfers out and Daniels hadn't been hurt. That is fact, not "fan fiction" so let's not pretend he was "chosen" due to some perceived attributes the coaches saw in him. He was their only choice. If any of those others had stayed or even stayed healthy the most accomplished QB in UGA history would have never saw the field. Kirby is a great coach and so is Monken, but there's no debate that without Bennett (via hook or crook) those 2 back to back championships don't happen. Those coaches owe him much for their success....that and the fact they, to some degree, fell into the success he gave us through no choice of their own.

Lot of people gave Everette a lot of crap. He had his good moments and his bad. Seemed to grow a lot the last half of the season and he absolutely owned Texas. Ironic in some sense seeing people hail his return.

Gonna reflect badly on UGA if he shines in the NFL which I suspect he very well may.

But he needed to go...his heart wasn't in this program any longer. You could see it in his eyes

Looking back at it, it really is interesting that he got praise on the scout team but he had to get in a game before his true talent came out …. which is refusing to lose and playing his arse off with a chip on his shoulder at the highest level he’s capable of. Talk about an intangible.

McConkey was very similar. Without a depleted WR room he doesn’t get the game reps and turn into the damn NFL star he is today.

I remember Bennett's first year hearing there was some QB on the scout team that was Johnny Manzielesque. Over the next 2 years I never heard any more on him, then learned that he would be starting in the UAB game. I made it a point to watch the game. RGIII was calling the game and Stetson came out at QB on the first drive. Never forget RGIII saying "If JT Daniels is cleared why is he(Bennett) playing to which SB took the snap and threw a long TD to Burton. He went on to tie the record for most TD in a game by a UGA QB. One of my favorite moments in sports history. Scroll to the 1min. 30 second mark.
The beginning of a legend

To your point, we can thank fate as much as any coach for those 2 championship years.

No truer words were ever written. They never knew how good Stetson was. Stetson always knew.

In the 2017 G Day Game Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm both stunk for three quarters. In the fourth quarter Stetson came in with the third string and cut through the defense like butter. I was really excited about it and posted about it here.

I still think it’s funny that in his preseason start for the Rams he threw all of those picks but then marched them down the field to win it late in the 4th.

That’s partly why Fields came to UGA. He thought he could start right away

Good choice. He has a real talent for missing blocks and should take it to the next level.
