I have loved Spencer's writing for a long, long time and this may be the best thing he has ever put out.

That was all emotion without regard for the consequences of what he is proposing. It is completely asinine. Are they going to pay the tennis team? Women's softball? Some smaller schools can't afford to do this like the large schools can. This would destroy college football as we know it.
But, yes, it was well written.

Eh, it is more complicated than just "pay them their money", but it's also hyperbole to say this will ruin college football.
If schools had to pay athletes (and you're right it'd be more than just the football team) we'd see the highest division shrink by a good bit since many couldn't afford the new setup.
If wake forest, Purdue, Washington state and the like left FBS I don't think it'd ruin the game.

So...when you're a senior in high school and Apple comes to you and says we'll pay for your college, room and board....but you're going to intern for us for free during this time and have to bust your arse....
...AND....if your one of the best that we have when this is all over... you'll get a job making high six figures or even seven figures....which could set you for life. If not, you'll still get the degree. Are you in?
Who would bitch or refuse because they won't get paid .... or think they're getting exploited?
bullshite.

Geez. All emotionalism.
Well written emotionalism I guess, but very little substance or good sense.
I grew up poor so pay college students/athletes who are getting a free education, free food, free health care, free training, free clothes, free publicity, free housing, free whatever HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS (or more) to play a game.
Do it .... FOR THE CHILDREN!!!
Good grief.

Tell that to Decorey Bryant.

So the only real argument given is that it's unfair that these poor slaves don't get paid anything while they make their masters millions of dollars by their hard work.
There just isn't enough time to go into how bad the argument is.
I was a poor college student, too, and when I finally earned my degree, I had a lot of debt to pay off. At least student athletes get to leave college debt free if professionalism is out of the picture.

Whoa is me!! ....A private business (Wendy's) voluntarily paid my father money in exchange for the only labor he was apparently qualified to perform......
So: pay college athletes. For integrity. Such as that of health care. In the Mercia of the U.S. And, therefore, yes. Thank you....

I'm still trying to figure out what this a-hole's point about supposedly growing up "poor" has to do with the topic. Other than an excuse to write 50,000 flowery words romanticizing it and painting himself as a heroic and righteous victim of greed and hopelessness.
I especially like how he included a picture of himself as a child to highlight all the trauma and woes.
Seeing him in his Izod shirt laying in a malaria filled mud puddle with flies crawling on his emaciated and soar-covered face and body really struck home!!!!
