How would he know? That's for the SEC to investigate. The optics are definitely not good - especially when you chair the Intel committee, have access to classified briefings, and publically communicate one position while privately acting in a manner consistent with a different position.

Really odd how some folks only want accountability for one party or the other...unwilling to hold both to the same standards.

And how would you know?

Amazing that you guys don't have one answer to anything I've asked.

The dummies who decided it was a good deal to buy hotel and travel stocks a week after Diamond Princess hit the news? And the guy (and many other people) selling them are all crooks?

He doesn't need specific company information. There are these things called market and industry risk. See what's going on with the market now. Dont be obtuse.

Would it be illegal for Trump to short the market while acting to drive it down?

Yep, and I bet its not gonna turn out good for him or his female colleague once the investigation is done, who knows how far into the future.

It wouldn't be explicitly illegal to promote a misconception to prop up stock prices while you dump stocks - not for a congressman.

Ther fact that Burr told a group of donors it would be bad but left everyone else in ther dark should come with political consequences. In a real democracy a representative shouldn't be able to warn rich donors then lie to everyone else without people exacting a cost.

The following news story from WSB is warning everyone of the danger, but they don't mention this patient also had very bad diabetes. This lady was my good friend's MIL and I actually worked with her at a company back in 2013-2014.

Something about diabetes is like throwing gasoline on the fire.

I agree this corrupt moron engaged in insider trading, but didn't congress basically gut that bill, leaving only one of the three provisions originally in the bill? Thus providing loopholes for them to continue doing it?

My mom has diabetes, and she's the office manager at my shop. If only for that reason there's no way in hell I'm going out to hang with a bunch of people.

Congress never liked the law but the last administration pushed it through. However, the last administration later signed Congresses' change that made the law very difficult to enforce.

Here's an example:

Let's say the SEC wanted to investigate a more senior government officials who either runs the organization or control its purse strings (which they obviously wouldn't).

Essentially, there's now one database in one room for all congressional trades, and those files are all in non-searchable PDF format. They'd have to first divert manpower, sign in (so everyone know's who is snooping), and spend hour after hour & day after day reading every single filing in the only database containing the information.

You'd have to read every page of every trade to find the one you're looking for - if you even know the one you're looking for. If you don't you have to cross reference every disclosure with recent bills, congressional hearings, committee hearings, and associated briefings - if these aren't classified. If you don't have access you have to make a FOIA request, but how do you do that if you don't know the specific meeting or briefing or hearing you're looking for?

It's clever and funny, actually. Hilarious.

I won't even touch my daily newspaper without wearing gloves. Boxes from Amazon will never be touched by me also. I'm having a car delivered to me today. It will be three days before I touch it.

And you shouldn't. However, you can't live like that forever. It would be a good thing for low-risk people to get out there, get the damn disease and have their bodies make antibodies and we can get herd immunity going. There's no reason otherwise-healthy people shouldn't be out and about, unless they live with the vulnerable. The vulnerable and those who live with the vulnerable need to continue to lay low. But shutting everything down doesn't fix anything. It's still out there, and always will be. It will never go away. It's a new virus. Vaccines are a very long way off. But we have to get back to living our lives and shake off the panic.

Athens-Clarke coronavirus updates: what to know Friday
March 18, 2020
Earlier this week, the commission limited gatherings to fewer than 10 people in bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.

The distancing and “shelter-in-place” rules will be enforced with education and guidance, not fines, arrests or jail, Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz said in Thursday night’s emergency meeting.

The commission also approved spending $3 million to help people, businesses and agencies impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Several commissioners expect to appropriate more money than that to help those suffering the economic toll of the pandemic.

The commission’s vote came after they heard presentations from the Georgia Department of Public Health, University of Georgia public health authorities and a letter signed by a dozen of Athens’ top physicians, including the dean of the UGA-Augusta University Medical Partnership Dr. Michelle Nuss.

They also saw a video by Dr. Lewis Earnest of St. Mary’s Hospital, after he had treated his second COVID-19 case.

Earnest and the doctors pleaded with the commission to enact the strict measures to halt the COVID-19 spread in Athens-Clarke County and the region.

Kinda funny, kinda not funny.

I guess with the corona virus being so big and bad that there is no reason for kids to go back to school early April after spring break. Damn.
