Just got back from the Kroger. Plenty of H20 and toilet paper. Bought a pack of Cottenelle just in case and put off taking the newspapers to be recycled.

My company had our annual international Sales & Operations conference coming up on the 15th in San Diego. Probably about 800-1000 people.

They just canceled the whole thing.

ABC Evening News - Administration spokesman said that the CDC has sent out 900,000 tests and has 4,000,000 more on the way.

NBC Evening News reports that only 2,000 people have been tested.

Not knowing what to believe is frustrating. We need transparency. Trump was afraid to go to the CDC but advised sick people to go back to work.

The more widespread testing is going to result in a marked increase of cases, just like how breast cancer rates went through the roof when we started making mammograms a regular thing.

The irrational people are going to shut the country down and when it turns out to be bullshite they'll credit their irrational behavior for staving off calamity. Watch.

Oh, it's absolutely an overreaction. The wrinkle is that there's a happy medium in ignoring the issue and full-blown panic, here in America but not everyone affected globally has the same Healthcare infrastructure that we do. China's basically a third world country, Iran even moreso, so it can run unchecked.

What would happen if the CDC said:

"It's already widespread and uncontainable, but the scientifically projected mortality rate is 0.0016% and we are taking precautions and preparing for the 2020 mutation and will have a vaccine ready in 4 months. We recommend those who are elderly or have compromised immune systems to be vigilant against this, as they should already be for the other 23,000 bacterial and viral infections already out there."

If that were the case none of this would have happened. Experienced doctors and nurses are freaked out.

The reaction to this is more dangerous than the virus itself. If everyone freaks out and starts hoarding groceries it’s going to be a problem.

They should be. They are the ones that would be most affected.

And "Freaked out" is a bit of exaggeration. They are legitimately concerned about a new strain of flu that kills old people. My parents are old people and I am concerned too. But clearing out shelves at Kroger is bullshite. Closing down schools is bullshite. Shutting down businesses is bullshite.

CDC has already came out and said “Ooops we may have overreacted.” After a case study is less harmful than the actual flu.

Presumably it's people reading a bit into this comment:

quote:

“A lot of people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor, they don’t even call a doctor. You never hear about those people,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “So you can’t put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and or virus. So you just can’t do that. So, if you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better.”

To be fair, he's one of the least coherent public speakers I've ever heard, so it's not surprising that reading through that gibberish would leave people confused.
