Have you picked out a new user name yet?

IT_Dawg is one of the most level-headed people that posts here, and has been for many years, whether it is sports or other offtopic subjects. SOmetimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. But he's not a consistent gimp.

He deserves better than to be called a moron.

Moron should be reserved for people that consistently are wrong. People like yourself.

I’m sure the Federal Govt, by their protocols due to the Pandemic declaration, is who is mandating all these things to shut down. They are doing a lot and a great expense. It is a terrible, lose/lose scenario.

That’s your opinion Deeprig. Watching IT_Dawg spout nonsense about this virus has been entertaining. You threatening me with a ban go ahead as you are the embodiment of those who think know everything when they don’t know a damned thing. And learn how to grow turf grass without constantly asking for approval.

What stinks is that this is likely not even true. Still a week out, at best, for widespread testing availability

I am right here. What's your point? I stand by what I have said throughout this entire thread. This will not kill as many people in the US this year as the flu does. I can't help it if every single person out there is overreacting and panicking. The fear will end up being more deadly and serious than this virus.

China, population of 1.25B, says they are over their peak with WHO monitoring them. They have 83,000 confirmed cases. Do the math, even if that doubles to 186,000....think about what that number will be in terms of % of population.

In the providence that started this whole thing, they had 7 confirmed cases yesterday...ONLY 7, in a population of 58M. Just like the flu, if you get it, stay home, drink a lot of fluids and avoid contact. If you are older or have pre-existing conditions, seek medical attention as soon as you have any symptoms (pssst - JUST LIKE IF YOU HAD THE FLU). The reason for the higher mortality rate right now, is because of who we are testing. That will go way down as we test more people and realize that in 85% of the cases, it reacts no different than a common cold

What reality? That we are flipping the frick out? Still say more people will die in the US this year from the flu than this virus.

We had months to prepare, but we didn't procure the tests to provide an adequate picture of the spread.

Questions that S. Korea and China and Germany and France and Italy and Iran and Tiwan can answer for their population that we cant: How many have contracted it? How fast is this spreading? What's the hospitalization rate? What's the mortality rate?

Instead of just addressing the problem the US downplayed it. That sentiment is reflected in peoples' attitudes.

ETA: It's probably more accurate to say the response has made things worse. They're trying to play catch up, but it's late for that and the US is going to get hit about as hard as any major country.

Per the CDC website:
From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

In roughly a year we will know if the hyperbole is justified. To date that have been 31 deaths attributed to the Coronavirus.

It is the proliferation on this that is going to be the difference. Frankly, it was inevitable and even if we made some mistakes in early prevention , the math doesn’t help us here. A lot more people will get it. If 2% of that large number die, it will be a really big # in deaths. Best thing we can do now is accept the reality and be smart in our own lives.

2%

There is too little data on this virus ot say mortality is 2%. The issue is the only ones getting tested are the ones in the hospitals and such....the cases where they are basically on their deathbed. They don't test the average joe with a cold and fever. As test become more readily available and more and more mild cases are documented I think you will see that 2% drop, hopefully significantly.

That shite has potential to hit the fan in a couple of weeks. That’s what China, Italy, and Iran prove, but you think that’s fake news.

It has potential to kill 10x as many as a bad flu season. That’s what the experts say, but you think they are FOS.

It’s a hypothetical that appears to be in between where the WHO has it set at and where our experts expect it to settle.

If it were possible to track actual cases, I would put it at 0.0016 (this is actually based on calculations).

However, I think hundreds of millions of people have/will contract it but never be confirmed or tested, so it will remain artificially high at 0.1 %.
