Details on Georgia PAWS.
Dudes came out and set traps and put wire over most of the holes where rats got in my attic. Then said they’d come back and check them in a few days. So I told the “technician” if I saw or heard something in the traps I’d give them a call. So they didn’t come back for like two weeks until one of the crack head “technicians” showed up asking for a check. I told him I wasn’t giving him a checmthey didn’t even make sure the rats were gone. Then the owner calls and says I told the guy I would check the traps and that would tell me to my face. That’s fightin words. And I said oh to my face mother fricker? Ok come on and get in my face. We holler on the phone he says he’s on the way etc. never actually heads my way. So we decide that I’ll pay him after someone actually checks the attic. And then I ledt him bad yelp reviews.

The trap was baited with strawberries on a paper plate, the squirrels got all the bait and shredded the edges of the plate, looks like they got it from the side and didn't enter the trap. But this is good. Now the squirrels like the trap. It is a food center. And nothing bad happened. I was afraid if I caught one the first night, the others would be too afraid to go in afterward.

Pics later. And will come up with a new plan so they have to enter the trap.

put peanut butter directly on the pressure plate and then put whole peanuts in shell (unsalted) using the peanut butter as the "glue" to hold the peanuts.

That was my original plan but my wife, also a dawgvet, pulled the animal science card and said strawberries. Tonight is my turn.

You said they were using the pergola.
Are they climbing up the posts or jumping onto the top?

Looks like you at least have gray squirrels. I got those fricking little flying squirrels in my attic one year. Those little pricks are the devil's spawn.

They're nocturnal so they're active and kept us up every night until I finally got all the cracks and crevices patched and killed them all with mousetraps using peanut butter. Had to tie traps to rafters cause if it didn't get them across the neck they'd drag the trap all over the attic in middle of night.

Good luck it can be maddening.

You guys are cruel to harm those innocent little things....

Just kidding. A rat is a rat even if some have fluffy tails and live in trees.

Hey deeprig, Can we get an update on the photo shoot that Architectural Digest was doing of your pergola? You never told us which upcoming issue it was going to be featured in.

It all started with the birdfeeder.

Thats your first problem with the tree rats in your house. The bird feeder. You need to buy one that closes when the tree rat goes for the seeds. You have a steady supply of food for them with that type of feeder. Spend the extra $$ (around $60) on a feeder that closes and I guarantee you will see a drop in tree rats in and somewhat around your house. Or - get a cat.

For most of the year the squirrels couldnt get to it. They couldnt climb the powder coated metal, and couldnt jump high enough from the wood rail. But then they figured out how to climb the gutter, get on the roof, then jump down on top of the pergola. Then they found a way into the crawlspace in the guest room. Then they found strawberries in a trap. Now here we are.

The birdfeeder stays. The pergola stays.

If you zoom in on the flame, I see a cowgirl riding a bucking bronco.

Do you have an ungrounded metal spear mounted at the apex of your roof too? For decoration?
