Sorry, but all the hot pepper and cayenne pepper solutions do not work

Then you haven't seen naive tree rats jump onto my platform feeder, eat a couple of bites and take off running. Most people just sprinkle cayenne with the seeds, which just falls off the sunflower seeds, or they use water to mix it, which also comes off easily.
The pressure feeders like you recommended are also a good suggestion (I have 2), but I have had small birds get trapped inside. Plus when you are only feeding sunflowers, the empty shells tend to collect in the front openings making it more difficult for the birds to get to the seeds.

If you really want to get a great number of different types of birds, add a suet feeder.

I get all kinds of birds from Cards, Blues, Finches, to Chickadees and Titmouse and have never had a problem with them getting trapped inside - I'd feel bad if I found one trapped.

I have a suet feeder too and the woodpeckers love it. I've never used a platform feeder. As to the empty shells - never had that problem. Of course, I don't expect that to happen if I pay $60 for a feeder. All I know is it keeps those damn tree rats out of my seed cause that stuff (the good seed) can get expensive when the rats are eating it.

This is kind of related..

I read this book recently and as an anecdote to make a point about people’s behavior, the author who is also a bird expert.l, he was saying that while the sounds and songs of birds that some people find so pleasing ...and how they try to attract them with feeders and houses like Dawgirl, Dawvet, and Deerig do for example ... he was saying that if we could actually understand what the birds were singing and chirping about, we’d be disgusted and mortified. And probably wouldn’t go to all the trouble

Because basically , all those tweets and chirps and etc is the equivalent of a New York City traffic jam with cabbies and motorists yelling “frick you” and “I’m gonna kill your arse bitch” and “I’m gonna frick your wife the next time you go out to collect nest supplies!” and that kind of stuff.

But because we don’t know the language, and are dumb fricks who think nature is a Disney movie, we’re oblivious and just think it sounds nice

The bird feeder shite isn't the problem. Yeah, it's a food source, but I'm on a wooded lot, backed up by many more acres of woods. And 300 other bird feeders in the subdivision. There is plenty of food for them.

Removing or altering the birdfeeder won't make a difference, they already found a breach in the roof somewhere, and they are living in a comfortable house now.

Even if I remove the pergola and the birdfeeder, they are still here. They can climb the gutter to get to the roof. The only think they use the pergola for is to get to the bird feeder.

They will be trapped and relocated to Tribble Mill Park.

Plan C is New England Firearms .410.

You can make a hot pepper solution to spray on the sunflowers shells.
Birds don't have may tastebuds ( a chicken only has about 30 tastebuds vs 8-10,000 for us), so birds won't taste or get mouth burn from the hot pepper solution. As a matter of fact, a lot of times it acts as a de-wormer for birds.
You can buy birdseed with hot peppers but where is the fun.

I mix some vegetable oil with a fair amount of cayenne pepper, put in a ziplock bag and then add the sunflower seeds to the bag, shake to lightly cover the sunflower seeds with the oil/cayenne mixture and then place in feeder. Squirrels will feel the mouth burn and stop coming to the feeder ( unless you have dang Mexican squirrels, then they'll just ask for some tortilla chips)

Yeah, I think we got off course on the topic. Good luck with your traps tonight. I think the PB will get you at least one. If not, my dad always had success with CO2 pellet rifle. The rifle you posted however .....

Like we all say "fricking squirrels!!!"

Killing a few definitely won't put a dent in their population. Kind of like roaches, for every one squirrel you see, there are 10 more that you don't see.

they figured out how to climb the gutter

If they are climbing up the inside of the downspout here is a $2.92 solution

They climb the outside of the gutter. I could probably just go spray some oil on it. I might do that tomorrow. The internet says they come out during the day, and come in at night, which is consistent with my observations. Tomorrow in the afternoon I will spray down the two gutters I think they are using.

This thread is long from over.

Go ahead with the oil but Ive seen videos that it will only last about a day. When they try, try, try, the oil eventually comes off due to their fur.

Then you must have Ninja squirrels that can climb using the outside of a metal downspout, over the 90 degree elbows, grab onto the gutter and pull themselves over.

They can't climb gutters, can't climb powder coated pergolas, so they are miracle-ing themselves onto the roof.

Ive seen them climb gutters. Dad try many different ways to keep the rats off them with no success. Old man is pretty inventive. The Power Coated Pergolas are almost impossible for them to climb so well done on that.

Meme idea:

Trump laughing while watching a weight activated centrifugal squirrel spinner bird feeder...with the head of your favorite fake news reporter photoshopped on to the squirrel .

Don’t leave us hanging Deerig. Did daddy daughter date night have any success with the squirrels?

They licked the peanut butter clean without triggering the trap.

I think i need to put a square cut of thin plywood in the back, resting on the trigger, with bait all the way at the end. Then when critter hops over the trigger, it lands on the wood which depresses the trigger. And wall off the sides where the bait is so they cant reach in to get it.

Daddy daughter fishing trip this morning in the rain, and we got skunked. I blame the Blood Moon along with approaching cold front.
