Georgia last in part bc eastern time AND had so many CBS…including the one guaranteed of UF…which only leaves like 3 night game choices. Ga/Au almost always 3:30.

While that has merit, it doesn't explain why Florida is double the percentage we are considering all that applies to them too.

It actually does. 3:30 was the number one slot (as other poster noted) and the two best modern teams are #1 and #2 in 3:30 games. Being one of the best modern teams does not apply to UF.

This. 3:30 was the number one spot. The number three spot was at night on ESPN2.
The better your team was performing the more likely you were to be in the 3:30 slot.

Night games are awful hard on the people from South GA. Before TV contracts dictated everything, Dooley was a strong proponent of day games, especially later in the year after the time change.

of course. The CBS contracted started in the mid 90s so there have been plenty of years when UF was still a big draw as the best game of hte week.
But that's not the real issue. The real issue is the lesser games. For pretty much any other SEC team when they play tomato cans they get a bunch of them at night. Ours are almost always at noon. I know Kirby likes that, did Richt? Who knows.
There simply isn't a logical, rational explanation to explain away THAT big of a discrepancy aside from either 1) the league truly trying to stick it to us for some reason that I have no idea, or 2) us simply not caring about it enough to even speak up to address it. That woudl fit in with Richt's personality as he wouldn't want ot be seen as stirring up controversy, and we know that Kirby doesn't mind it one bit so he's not going to fight it etiher.

It did, and it does. UGA’s longstanding policy has been unless a kickoff time is governed by media contract, kickoff will be at 1:00 PM. As the media contracts have expanded to streaming services, a kickoff not governed by media is rare indeed.

People that live in those areas don’t go to concerts and specials in Atlanta at night and go back home that same night. They get a hotel.

Have done that more times than I can count coming home to Savannah.

Disagree with if if you will. I’m just telling you that was part of the reasoning behind the day game policy when Dooley was the AD and media took over everything.
As I am also a VSU grad, I go to games in Valdosta. Sometimes I don’t go to a night game due to the added expense of a hotel AND having to drive home on Sunday.

My uncle went to UGA in the 1960s if that gives you an idea on his age. I remember when I was younger he despised night games and even 3:30 was almost too late. Because to him every CFB game ever should be played at 1pm by damn. Because that's what he was used to when he was younger when you might have one game a year on TV if you were lucky. That mindset is/was entirely irrelevant and has been for a long time.
Ditto for old man dooley wanting to think about the poor south GA folk and how hard it'd be for them to get to a game and back at a decent hour. That MAY have been accurate in the early 90s but hasn't been true in ages. Why on earth woudl that matter? Every single CFB program in america has fans that live at the other end of the state. Scheduling your game times so that that small subset of fans is just ridiculous.

Not the case for a number of years. Most of their base is now metro Atlanta. Now they care about tv exposure and money.
