And just like that. College football as we know it dies.
Not being overly dramatic but this will be rife with corruption.

So can we get the video game back? I haven’t owned a console in over a decade but I would buy one for that.

I've heard people say that college football won't be around much longer. This just may be that catalyst.

I do miss that game. Last version you could load .wav files up to play during 4th downs and 1st downs so you could have the actual band playing the real song.

Just awesome.

Mascot play was the best.

I fear programs buying players.

I fear programs buying players from other teams (professional sports at least has a draft and contracts that can create some semblance of normalcy for team building. Their madness is constrained to free agency periods. This is going to be unchained free agency).

I also fear agents abusing dumb 17, 18, and 19 year olds and their families. How long before the stories of agents making money undisclosed or flat stolen from the athletes?

Those two fears aside, I hope things can remain fairly similar to college football as we know it.

Yeah no they didn’t. They voted to start figuring out how to approach the issue so that it doesn’t become every state for itself with it s own laws. Nothing has actually been decided or put into action. This is just the NCAA finally acknowledging that they have to adapt or die

None of that is going to be allowed to happen. The NCAA is going to do the bare minimum to appease lawmakers. Things will change but not to the drastic extent they would have if the NCAA had dug in its heels further and eventually been killed off

This was the first thing that went through my head as well. EA always said they’d only be able to bring the series back if the NCAA let players profit off their likenesses...

Maybe its a first reaction but you dont think Oregon is chomping at the bit with their Nike connection?
Or Bama and Nike?

Way I see it Oregon can say "Come to Oregon and you can have a shoe contract using your likeness on a shoe, get paid millions"

We will see how it all shakes out but on the surface if you can "profit" from your likeness a Tua for example. Nike will pay him big money for a Shoe contract that will carry over to the NFL.

That’s a hell of a risk to take on a high school kid. Football players are way harder to project than basketball players. Why would you invest “millions” into a commodity that has maybe a 20% chance of panning out as projected.

I think basketball’s the sport that’s more likely to see mega deals.

Doug Flutie's Maximum Football 2019 doesn't cut it. I still play NCAA Football '14.

That's not the endgame though. What they really want is to force schools to pay the athletes like employees. I say fine, you no longer get a scholarship, you have to pay your tuition, room and board with that money, and the IRS wants to have a word with you.

Stuff like this isn't helping, either

Doesn't necessarily directly impact college ball, but the fewer kids who start playing...

State schools would be more than a little fricked, too, since there are a lot of places that have diversity requirements with regard to sex, race, disabilities, etc. when it comes to governmental employment. At least the resulting litigation could be fun to watch.
