Monken has a pretty good situation here. Anything outside of a HC or NFL job is a lateral move at best, with a smaller chance of success.
Hope he stays for a while.

I was just told TM is not going to Purdue..

My son and I have pondered this for the past two seasons. I’d think CTM would be in the twilight of his career. He’s got it made at a winning program. Success and great money. Why stress over being mediocre and having to rebuild a program to your ideas?
Doesn’t make much sense to me but I don’t understand pronoun people either.

One last huge contract to take care of your family, at the very least.

Quality of life has to factor in as well. He’s had a front row seat to witness what it takes to manage a football program at the highest level. Hopefully he looks at that and says “yeah, I don’t want any part of that shite”.

He made $2M this year. I'd put his payraise this offseason at $2.5M minimum. More probable, pushing $3M
"One last huge contract" is relative.
If he was told 10 years ago that he'd be pulling over $2M, he could have absolutely seen it as one last huge contract.

I'm 47 years old. If it were just me that I was caring for, that's exactly what I would say.
However, I have a daughter. The responsible man in me would see the offer of a huge payday, and eventually cave and accept the added stress because of the future stability that it could provide for her.
Now, I don't pretend to know Monken, how many kids he has, whether or not he gives a shite about them, or whether or not he feels there is a such thing as "enough money".
I can only speak to how I would feel, not being an early thirties, hungry motherfricker anymore.
It's hard to say what a man who cares for his family will do. I guess that's the point of this rant. My answer would be "whatever it takes."
It's all speculation.
I would like to think that Kirby, being the coach that he appears to be, as a succession plan in place on that side of the ball, as he does with the defense.
For me, I hope that plan isn't named "Bobo".

With what he had to work with at USCe and Auburn under Harsin, no wonder.

This is true. Most things, if not all, are absolutely relative.

This can be true but, at the same time, as his pay scale has slid up, so hase the relativity of "one last huge contract".
If faced with guaranteed 50 million vs 3-5 years at 3 million per year...
Look, I'm just saying that there are reasons to take the money. We want what we pay him to be enough. We are fans. But, he has his own, relative, reasons for what he will or won't do. Reasons that we can't know and, perhaps, cannot relate to.

Well, perhaps he shouldn't have fallen flat on his face at Colorado State, at a program that Jim McEwain left in damn fine shape.
I don't want to shite talk Bobo. He's a DGD and I respect him for his contributions to the University. But I also remember motherfrickers on the old Rant calling for him to be made HCIW, wanting him to succeed St. Mark, and thinking that Bobo was the third coming of the Christ himself (after Mark of course).
I wanted Bobo to go off and prove himself. He wanted to, also. He did not prove himself.
Forgive my adversion to seeing Bobo on the sidelines and involvement in any way. I just know that there are people that actively pine for his reinstallment as OC, because they were actively calling for him to be HCIW. And it was more (much more) than a few people.
Ultimately, though, my adversion to Searles has been, tentatively, proven unfounded, and IF Smart were to promote Bobo in the wake of a Monken departure, I would look forward to be proven wrong, yet again.
I would also say that the Smart Rehab Clinic is the best in the business.

Can't you make a point w/out this drama
queen bullshite?I remember just the opposite on the old Rant.He caught loads of unjustified bullshite by the mouth breathers and knuckle draggers over there and they outnumbered the other crowd by a wide margin.I rarely saw calls for em to be the HCIW.

Like who? Good Lord, you're delusional. This board would go ballistic if he got the OC job.
He wouldn't be my first choice but I wouldn't throw a child like tantrum if he got the job and I think he'd do fine.
Monken ain't going to Purdue BTW so I don't think we need to worry a OC for now.

Everything that I've posted about Mike (I know him. Played football against him down here in South Georgia) is factually accurate. He fell flat on his face at every position he's held outside of the University of Georgia. Lots of coaches fail. People fail, everyday, in real life. It's not personal.

You misremember then. CHD and then baws we're louder and more forceful, but the Richt acolytes were far greater in number.

Lol. You crumble during interrogation, which is why you should exercise the right to remain silent.
I now have a corroboration, on record, that people were, IN FACT, calling for Bobo to be made HCIW. The only thing in question, now, is how many?

I think that I'm adamant that he wouldn't even be my second choice, but I am not Kirby, and I would have to trust his judgement upon his selection. I was, certainly (and previously admitted), wrong in my angst against Searles being brought back. I happily admit that, and would happily admit to being wrong about the same with Bobo, should he be promoted in the wake of Monken leaving and light it up, offensively.

I feel the same way. If it were a different school, I may feel differently.

I would think Monken may try to jump to an NFL OC position if anything. If he does leave I would assume Bobo takes over. Maybe it would be some redemption for Bobo after poor stints at CSU, SC, & Auburn. Still I wonder if he is comfortable just taking a back seat after his health issues.

Sounds like Miss State will have a HC opening as well. Friend of mine who is a big donor there says Leach is in bad shape. He is an interesting dude. Hate to hear this.

Leach is already dead.

I think that move would be dictated by more than just $$$. If he were to jump back to the NFL, I'd wager that he simply has an adversion to recruiting.

I'd be as happy as anyone to see him redeemed. Perhaps he was just dealt cards from a bad deck at his last two stops (he has to own CSU, however. He held the deck, himself.) Really, my feeling upon Bobo are related more toward some of our "aw shucks" fans that believe more in legacy over merit, and just how fascistic they can be when it comes to these things.
Call me paranoid. Call me a ( unt. Just call me.

I think Mike would like another shot at it, and should Monken leave, my gut tells me that Kirby would give him that shot. Maybe a co-OC type deal.
As much as I do not want to see it, the Dawg in me would have to admit that seeing three of Goof's guys out there, winning championships would be sort of a redemption story for Dawg fans of my era, who wandered in the wilderness for quite some time.
(I know that Kirby and Bobo were more prominent under Donnan...just indulge me)
