Saban coaching tree (albeit, briefly). DC at Miss State for one of their better defensive years (2014, but left for UF before the Orange Bowl).
Dabo-esque in how he relates to players, has some good press as a recruiter. He will definitely be a culture change in the program.

Could be a solid hire defenses were solid at UF. I don’t think he was a great recruiter. If I’m hiring for GT I’m hiring an offensive guy though. They could be abysmally bad on offense if they mess up that hire and don’t use their personnel right.

He was at GT twice before...once as a GA and TE coach under O'Leary from 1999-2001, and was there under Chan Gailey in 2006. He was instrumental in securing a recruiting class in 2006 that included Jonathan Dwyer, Josh Nesbitt, Morgan Burnette, and Calvin Johnson.
I've watched a Temple game or two, and he appears to be a good offensive-minded coach. I saw his team put over 400 yards and 34 points on UCF in one half. They still lost, though, because Temple has no defense. Odd, considering that Collins was a DC at Miss State from 2011-2014, and the DC at Florida from 2015-2016 before taking over at Temple.
He was born and raised in Georgia (Conyers), so I am sure he knows a thing or two about recruiting this state.

I was surprised that he was from Conyers I am from Covington one town over and had no idea about him

Could be the change GT needs right now.

Actually a pretty decent hire for them. Going to take time and money but I could see Collins rebuilding the program into something more consistently competitive than what Johnson had going. Main thing is I could see him eventually stealing a big recruit or two in state which is honestly what Tech needs to remain relevant (the Dwyer, Burnette, Johnson class seems like such a pipe dream for that program at this point and that had to change if they’re going to improve).

If they give him time to de-program the players from running the Veer to running his offense, which appears to be a HUNH Spread and Zone-Read package, they could become a decent team again. It will probably take a few years.

Smart move to get away from that high school offense. It will make them much more competive on the recruiting trail especially with the under the radar guys in the state that don’t want to leave the state but want to play in a more pro ready system. You will likely see them hurt USC , AU -and UGA recruiting in the Atlanta area.

This is the same sort of offense that Tobias Oliver ran at Northside Warner Robins. The kid is a baller, and will probably stay at GT. He's they type of mobile QB they will need to usher in this offense. However....he isn't that great a passer, like all of Paul Johnson's QBs since Nesbitt.

Wasn't Temple good and then they haven't been as good here lately?
I honestly don't know the guy from Adam's house cat.

It'll be better for us, too, that they move away from that type of offense. No need to devote extra practice time throughout the pre-season and season for an offense we will see one time.

Does he know how to run the option?

All I know is it isn’t going to be pretty for a couple of years when that undersized knee diving offensive line has to actually stand up and try to protect their QB.

Sounds like a good pick for Tech. He'll certainly have some O transition bumps to deal with. Tech desperately needed a culture change imo.

Heck no, I liked the culture the way it was. It was truly the north avenue trade school for option football

It's starting to make perfect sense now...
Collins was the dork that had his staff LARP as Star Wars characters during games at Temple.
You can't make this shite up.
The Nerds at Tech have definitely found their man
