Looking back: Scott Howard laid an egg on the Ringo Pick 6 call

I know he was sick, blah, blah, blah.
Doesn't matter. This was the end of thrity years of heartache and frustration. You sat beside the one of the greatest play by play men of all time. Yet every time that play is shown, the national broadcast guy's call is the one they choose.
And they should choose that call. All time play by play choke job? I'd say so.

I mean, that makes a huge difference. It sucks that he was sick for the biggest game in 40 years. It’s not like he normally lacks enthusiasm.
But I will agree that the call wasn’t great.

Weird thing to be thinking about 6 months later. Choke usually implies no external factors contributed to said choke and you admitted he was sick. Would we all like to have the call with Scott 100% sure, but it’s never bothered me at all. We won the fricking Natty

Weird thing to talk about? It's the fricking off-season dude. The board is dead. This is the perfect banter topic.
Banter, don't bitch.

Still, I would rather have his voice cracking and wheezing through an actual good call than the steaming pile of shite he spewed out that night.
Fowlers was so much better. Even Howards call of the final seconds ticking off was bad. Poor performance, sick or not.

Never been big on Scott's play by play. Larry's calls flowed so seamlessly, Scott's are forced most of the time, he's ok but not really memorable...

Very forced I agree Dallas. And then the one time where a rehearsed or forced call might actually play, he sounds like his dog just got ran over.

Never agreed with Scott being the next voice for football… I don’t hear it in him although he was a part of a 41 year gap… he has to stay… Like the dope Munson at Clempson… Hard to follow a legend. Scott is awesome at basketball though

Maybe you don’t understand the difference. I said weird thing to be upset about and that I haven’t thought twice about because we won. But you do you

I think that's a pretty gross understatement. He sounded like he was on death's doorstep.

He’s openly said the only reason he even called the game was because it was the natty. I’m sure he’ll kick himself for the rest of time for not being at his best for that moment.
Scott’s good. You’re overthinking things. He’s not Munson and there’s nobody in CFB today that is, so that’s a pointless comparison.

Nobody feels worse about that game than Scott. He’s said it a bunch of times. It was a legacy game for him.
He was more than just a little under the weather.

Yea he said if it was any other game than the NC, even the Orange or Rose or whatever, that he would’ve bowed out.
I mean medically speaking, for all we know the excitement combined with his illness could’ve had him at the edge of blowing chunks during the pick 6 and he had to be as calm as possible so he didn’t.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one on this take, but I really enjoy Chris Fowler’s calls on big plays
I like Scott Howard, but Fowler’s calls, especially for the Pick 6 vs. Clemson and the Chip 6, are some A1 calls in hindsight

I especially liked his Irish accent on the long pass to pickens in the title game.

I don't know if it is that I grew up listening to Munson do the greatest calls and was spoiled, but I haven't been a fan of Scott Howard. I actually think we can do alot better.
