How would the great one call the UGA V OU game?

I heard an interesting fact that I haven't been able to confirm - the First Team on SXM said that due to Sugar Bowl broadcast contracts, Munson didn't call the National Championship game in 1981. Can anyone confirm?

That is true. Back in the old days, the bowls carried the only broadcast of the game.

Honestly don't remember but I believe UGA fans raised
so much Hell about it I think a deal was negotiated to
allow local crews to broadcast the games the next year.
