I can see the wisdom of promoting Sherer...gives you a DC in title, allows you to keep your own thumb on the defense without having to battle Pruitts ego.
As also stated, it allows for mo' money to go into the hiring of the OC.
I don't hate the move.

Sherrer has been groomed by both Smart and Pruitt. I'd be plenty happy with Sherrer as DC, Derrick Ansley as DBs coach, Rumph or Rocker on DL, Eddie Gran as OC, BMac as Receivers, Brown as RBs, and someone on OL (maybe Sale? Really not sure unless Cristobal is coming over)

I can see why folks are frustrated with losing Pruitt as clearly he's been the best DC we've had in years. But if the guy can't respect his boss or peers then he needs to go. That is not a recipe for long term success.
Besides we're hiring Smart for his defensive prowess. You don't hire the top defensive coordinator in CFB as your HC and tell him he can't hire staff and run the defense the way he sees fit. I'm much less worried about where the defense is headed than the offense. That's obviously the key hire IMO.

Oddly enough, sacrificing Pruitt and promoting Sherrer might just the best if all possible scenarios. If the guys on Defense rally around him, even though they wanted to keep Pruitt, that collective sort of buy-in to Kirby's staff is precisely what Herman attributed to Houston's early success in light of transition.

That would be huge. If we get Cochran, make the right OC hire, keep Eason and close decently in recruiting I'll be thrilled.

Whatever the frickin radio show I caught part of yesterday...the host was saying, "The UGA administration absolutely cannot stand Jeremy Pruitt." It sounds like he has managed to piss off more than just McGarity.
