I might even give him the edge over Fields pre-snap. I don't see anything else he does nearly as well as Fields however.
There is no question presnap Fromm is one of the best in the country. He is head and shoulders above Fields, imo, however, I get it if people disagree. Fromm's accuracy has suffered this past season. I tend to believe that has something to do with his mechanics, and Coley just wasn't able to spot it, or could not help make the necessary adjustments.
Presnap and post snap has a ton to do with a QB.
It is every bit as important as physical tools.
Ryan Leaf is a perfect example of this. He had all the physical tools. He had a million dollar arm with a 10 cent mind. A player with one but without the other will not succeed.
Now, I am not saying that Fields does not have the mind. I absolutely think he does and I also think he will easily eclipse Fromm in all around QB play. I can only speak to today, though.

We're kind of going around in circles, and I doubt we're going to change each other's minds. At least we're not attacking one another and talking about it rationally.
At a certain point it is just time to agree to disagree. And that's okay. It doesn't mean either of us is right or wrong. It simply means that we disagree.
I do wish our fans would forget about Fields. it accomplishes nothing to keep saying we should have kept Fields. He chose to leave, and I believe he made the right call for his career. He went to a team that can take advantage of his talents and hopefully develop them so he will be prepared for the NFL.

I don’t think calling audibles at the line is some mythical ability that Fromm possesses that makes him better the others.
Then we will have to agree to disagree, then. If you cannot see how audibles are important then there is no longer anything to talk about.
quote:This alone should be a huge clue as to how special the ability is...and how important.
In this day and age the fact that he even does it is rare since most college offenses look to the sideline.
quote:To make a statement like this tells me you pin all the troubles on Fromm. Enough said. Anybody that would say our problems were all on Fromm simply does not understand football at all. Sorry. I don't mean to be harsh or rude. It simply is what it is. The many reasons we struggled have been debated, talked about and on display all season. To not understand all of the reasons you would have to be willfully not looking.
It certainly didn’t make much of a difference this year since we regressed so much
Even the harshest of Fromm critics would tell you that there were a multitude of problems with our offense, and not just Fromm.
For you to not understand the importance of checking off a bad play into a good one boggles my mind. I'm shocked that it is even an issue.

Fromm is just one of the rare QBs that still does it...not because he is special but because that’s the (antiquated) system we run.
For you not to understand that other teams don’t need to audible out of plays because they don’t call in the plays until they are set on the line or that the play that they run is based on the defenses set and not called in a huddle is mind boggling.

Pretty sure we do both. We trust Fromm to adjust at the line as well from what i can tell.

Hardly. The reason others don't do it is because their coaches don't trust them to do it. From being allowed to call audibles has nothing to do with the offense we run.

A QB comes to the LOS and looks to the sideline. A play is called from the sidelin and the QB calls the play at the LOS, then the defense shifts. What happens?
Either the offensive coordinator tries to call a change, burning more time and risking a delay of game, or they run the play anyway.
Fromm has the ability and green light to call an audible.
Are you telling me you honestly have not witnessed this exact situation in literally every single game?
It has nothing to do with the offensive system we run and everything to do with the coaches comfort level in allowing Fromm to audible. There are other QBs that are allowed to do it, but not a whole lot.
You can argue that point, but you are going to feel very, very lonely.
As I said...there is no reason to keep going back and forth. let's just agree to disagree.

Believe what you want. Fromm doesn’t get to call audibles while others don’t (and plenty of other do because that also is their system) because he posses some magical defensive reading ability that others don’t possess. You are majorly over hyping this as some difference maker for him and it just isn’t.
There is plenty in his game that makes him a difference maker namely his timing, decision making, and accuracy but being able to audible isn’t one of them except that it would slightly cut down his leaning curve in the pros vs another prospect who doesn’t run a pro system

Probably. But we know for sure they wouldn’t have been without Fields.
Y’all can spin all you want. But wearing a lineman’s knee brace Fields made 1 mistake the 1st int that resulted in no points. The second was not his fault. The only ones blaming him are the haters here. Every time expert, Ryan Day, and Chris Olave; admits Fields got the play they wanted and made the throw, Olave made the mistake. Why none of you can see that is beyond me. Just like against USC, Jake made the mistake on the pick 6; but the receivers made the mistakes on the other 2.
Jk should have been in NY; but so should have Fields... maybe not Young, his last 3 games his numbers dropped. But Fields has Heisman numbers; burrows was just ridiculous!

He telegraphed that last pass. The safety saw it and had position. The WR fell only because he was pulling off the post to run a post corner. Likely an option route. The option would have been based on where the coverage was. It was not a good read by Fields and frankly, it was him locking on the primary too many times in the game that caught up to him with the athletes Clemson had on defense. If the WR stays on that route, he may could have played defense or made a great play on the ball, but it likely at best ends up as an incomplete pass. Also, #8 was wide open on the right side, but he never looked over there.

Wrong again peter. The option was based on the wr reading his qb wrong:
“After the game, Olave took the blame, saying he broke off his route because he thought Fields was scrambling.”

That’s what he said, but the route was covered, Fields was locked on it, and the defender had position. If he looked to the right, he had Dobbins for the 1st down or #8 at the goal line. This one is on Fields.

If a uga wr admitted to being at fault for the play, zero chance you would ignore that, and then shift the blame to Fromm. Let’s face it. You can’t be trusted with your Fromm and fields takes.

So, you are saying my alleged bias is the reason Fields locked in on the post route, threw into coverage and missed two open players to the right? That is fricking awesome, I had no idea I had that much power. This is a great day.

Due to your obvious bias, You wouldn’t try to make these points if it involved fromm and his wr. That’s the issue.

I'm on a limb here. But I think peter is showing hypocrisy (you and he are having the most posts. So maybe you can be reflective about such hypocrisy).
He has no point other than the duplicity of dawg fans. Exposing biases. He wants you to see his bias because it is a reflection of several posters on the board for the past year.

Interesting take. If that’s the intent, he has failed. Exposing his own bias doesn’t necessarily expose the bias of others. Certainly not in this case.

I dont think he is really biased.
It is an act. To show the hypocrisy on those who repeat the same stale points on Fromm that you are defending on Fields.

Applaud the trolls effort, but it just didn’t work, though I wouldn’t expect you to understand that based upon your confusion in our discussion.

Lol
You get exposed for the same incorrect talking points (fields didnt get enough key plays.... well those plays dont count because of the playcall... smart didnt give him a chance despite more passes than Tebows freshman year and more snaps than Shockleys freshman season).
You are the picture perfect poster for football knowledge that has to walk back your statements when you finally decide not to totally ignore the facts presented.

Everyone uses the same talking points in this argument. Unfortunately, only one side is willing to admit that Fields is better and that Smart kept the lesser QB. It's not even really debatable at this point. There is not a single analyst worth his salt who would choose Fromm over Fields. It stings and some people are angry about it. That's why these arguments continue. Nobody is going to change their minds.
The only thing that matters now is Fromm has to be far better next year. The excuses have run out. They should have run out this past season. Fromm has played in every single kind of game and atmosphere a college QB can. He was a junior with two full seasons of playing experience, and he got worse. He had trouble completing routine passing plays or making accurate throws to wide open guys. He missed other wide open guys by not even seeing them. He was worse in hitting the check down. His mechanics and footwork were worse. He has to get better. Stop aiming the ball and playing scared, which it appeared he did. Physically, he is what he is, but he could at least hit or find the open guys.
Yes, the receivers and Coley have to be better. Fromm wasn't the only issue.
Strangely enough, the argument isn't even about Dobbins anymore, who is a great back. However, he did cost his team by dropping two TDs. He also was a big reason they had a two TD lead.

Stop lying, he didn’t drop 2 TDs. He dropped one at the 12 yard line and 1 in the end zone. Neither were good passes. The blame goes on the QB, unless you concede that receivers not making plays on balls that are not good throws, but catchable, are on the receiver and not the QB....
