LT Andrew Thomas - ankle - TBD
RG Ben Cleveland - "lower extremity injury" - TBD
WR Tyler Simmons - shoulder - out 2-3 weeks
ILB Monty Rice - MCL (low grade)- likely to return next Sat
WR Terry Godwin - ???

Seems that Thomas and Cleveland are the two of greatest concern. Hopefully Thomas didn't make the original injury worse.

Was Godwin out there against Missouri? I don't remember hearing his name. Seems he's not been 100% for most of this year.

Godwin was in the game. Saw him a few times. Fromm threw to him at least once that I saw for a TD - incomplete pass.

Worried about Thomas. Went in, went down and limped off the field.

He got rolled up on a running play. Honestly would be more concerned if it was non contact. To me it looked like a case of bad luck.

247 is saying it’s an extensive injury but nothing confirmed. Big loss, especially after Thomas re-aggregated his ankle.

We got Baker who could move back to LG and put Kindley back at RG. Salyer, Hill?

Broken tibia would mean he’s gone for season. Fibula could be returned from but likely not until Tech or UMass at earliest

Cleveland was emerging as a potential First Team AA at guard. Horrible news if he broke a tibia.

Big loss if Cleveland's gone for season. But since it happened in 4th game, possible to still get a medical redshirt maybe???

I think we should keep going with Justin Shaffer, who came in for him. Or split reps with Trey Hill or Salyer. Those guys have the size and potential to become special.

Baker has experience but no upside at this point.

I believe Cleveland already redshirted which would prevent him from a medical RS

I thought the only way you can actually get a medical redshirt is if you've already redshirted?

Of course you can get a medical RS after a normal RS.

Still 5 years to play 4 but they do make rare exceptions.Had a buddy who actually played 6 years at Southern Miss but it was a long time ago.

quote:

Athletes must keep in mind both the five-year clock and their four seasons of competition. Even if an athlete gets a medical hardship waiver, he or she needs to have time left on their five-year clock (10-semester/15-quarter clock in Divisions II and III) to use that season.

This is problematic for athletes took a normal redshirt season or sat out due to a transfer. An athlete can generally not use a medical redshirt in those cases unless they get a clock extension or sixth year waiver. To do that the athlete show they lost two seasons outside of his or her control. The medical redshirt would be one, but the athlete would still need to show another.

Losing so many linemen like this with 2/3 of the regular season to go is a little concerning.

No you can't...exceptions are made but a normal redshirt season can't be followed up with a medical redshirt.

5 years to play 4 with rare exceptions.
