Giving Texas its first L as a* SEC program is pretty legendary.

Definitely. Our defense showed me something very special. I hate the targeting calls but they are what they are. I just see how you can expect players to make adjustments when they are going full speed. Yes, there is probably a technique to avoid getting called but it's still BS.

What gets me is the runner is allowed to lower his head, but the defensive guy can’t and if he does he’s the one that gets called

I hear you but our tackling technique definitely needs improvement.
Basically we are tackling too high most of the time.
The tackler can certainly lower his head but your body needs to be positioned lower than the runners head and impact should be with your shoulder and not your head to avoid neck/head injuries.

True but even when they hit with a shoulder they still are getting called for targeting, the defensive player should have just as much right to protect there self also

Tackling lower is easier said than done.

I don't know if any of you played football but when you go to tackle in the heat of the moment all you care about is getting him to the ground.

You don't have time to fricking be like oh....gotta fix my head so the refs do t flag me.

It's a pussy arse penalty and needs to be removed from football

Both Dan Jackson and Aguero’s hits were tone setters. Neither of them were intentionally dirty. They were football plays. Not sure what the balance is. I get not going back to the days of Greg Blue decapitating people but they essentially throw a targeting flag for the vast majority of hard hits now. Feels like the officials are playing far too big of a role in both college and NFL football these days.

I still don’t think Auburn has gotten over that, 21ish years later.

We’ve given Texas, Missouri, and South Carolina their first SEC loss.

It used to be that officials were told to only throw a flag when they saw a penalty. Now officials are told to call targeting if it just might be targeting and let the review booth work it out. Same for hands to the face by defense if the hand merely brushes over the helmet.

I went to my first game in 1976. I mainly remember sticking close to the radio. Munson came on 630 AM in Savannah. It was a treat to watch them on TV. You’re right this was huge right up there with Oklahoma in 2017.

I did. Well, I practiced football. I wasn't good enough to get in much when the game was in doubt.

I remember being taught not to lower the head and to lead with the facemask rather than the crown. This was in the 80s. The reasoning was to avoid spinal injury.

Dan could not have gone any lower than he did.
