I think Kirby knew he had the defense to beat ND. It almost backfired. I would like to see what the offense can do when it needs to be electric to win the game in the SECCG if we get in a shootout with Bama or LSU.

I was a bit frustrated because I feel like we kept running into the teeth of the defense and never exploited the weakness ND had in between their over eager LBers and safeties. I hope it's seen on film and we can learn to take that if it's given.

I just think that maybe he is realizing that the offense needs to be opened up.

All it takes is for him to work it into the game plan. He is fully involved in developing it with Coley.
What Georgia does every game on offense and defense is what the HC want them to do.

Worked pretty well against OU in the Rose Bowl. Kirby's no stranger to uptempo shootouts, neither is Fromm.

There’s not a dang thing wrong with what he said. We played the game. He assessed it and noted the weak areas. He is addressing them. What more do you expect? The only problem I see is that maybe this should have been noted and addressed DURING the game, but hind sight is 20/20 and I’m humble enough to respect the fact that is was noted during the game and there was a very valid reason it was not tried. That said, Kirby is right in that there will come a time when throwing deep will be a necessity and not an option so Coley DOES need to have plans to do just so.

I'm watching the game for a second time.

It's funny how everyone says how conservative our playcalling was.

Their definition of conservative ignores downfield plays that dont work.

First drive, we had go routes set up on 2nd down. Notre Dame comes with a zone blitz. Fromm immediately checks to his hot receiver (swift) who gets dropped for a loss (zone blitz had guys in coverage despite the quick pressure). We had a bad play (too slow developing downfield left no options but the quick throw to Swift) for a great call by ND that we didn't recognize.

Second drive on third down. Another down field route (slow developing play. Fromm needed more than the normal 2.5 seconds). Mays lost his man around the edge. The defender knocks Fromms hand as he releases it for his first incompletion of the game.

Of course. That is a conservative play because it didn't work. The non-conservative plays would have blocked the defender and given Fromm 3 seconds to get the ball out.

So... the aggressive playcalls kill the first 2 drives. But we suck because we are playing too conservative (meaning the safer plays are the only ones working but let's find something to bitch about and show everyone how little we know about football.
