If we don't do what it takes to land one of the best coaches in college basketball, then we might as well give up. He took a hapless UT team to consecutive NCAA appearances, garnered high seeds in the tournament, and made them pretty relevant in the world of college basketball. He beat a few #1 ranked teams in Memphis and Kansas. He beat Kevin Durant's Texas team. This man made everyone in Knoxville get excited about basketball season, something not many were looking forward to before his arrival. The only blemish on his record was he hosted a couple of recruits at a BBQ at his house and lied about it. This would have only been a secondary violation if he hadn't lied.
I know UGA has the money to hire him, but the question is will they want to spend some money to make our basketball team relevant again? I'm sure we will interview some assistant coaches off of a 9 or 10 seed team if we get rid of Fox. This is an excellent time to snag someone great and if we don't try and either keep Fox or hire someone else , we will be irrelevant for another 5-10 years.

If you are going to hire Pearl why not address the festering, ulcerated, elephant in the room issue? As long as GA plays ball in a 50 year old facility designed to show livestock, the program will always struggle. I'm normally not in favor of newer is better. In fact I would prefer that GA play in the pre-closed in Sanford stadium, but Stegeman, despite a ton of renovations, is still, well, Stegeman.
I don't know if it is feasible to build a new stadium. This rant is really about the AD spending money on non-revenue sports while the money makers go wanting. It is like a home owner who buys a house, pays the mortgage, but doesn't save for rainy day repairs or necessary upkeep. Stupid.

I would hire Pearl in a new york minute, but our administration won't do it because we are terrified of the possible bad publicity behind it, partly thanks to the harrick situation. I thought things might change with mcgarity but so far who knows.
Pearl is a fantastic frickin coach and WGAS if he hosts illegal barbecues. If we were smart, we would pay him whatever he wanted and make him one of the highest paid coaches in the SEC, because he would undoubtedly put a buzz back in our program and we would start selling out instead of selling 2K tickets every game. The ticket revenue alone would offset the costs.

If we could get him, we would be idiots not to hire him. We will be in the top 20 in 3 years, if not 2.

2. Stegeman was a dump even in the 70's when I did my 4 years
3. A new basketball area will never happen. The only moneymaker (football) has to fund women's soccer, cross-country, volleyball, and equestrian.

Frock B-Ball! We need football coaches and y'all are worried about a basketball program in the SEC?! Are you insane? This is rediculous, we need to scrap this carp and use the cash flow on football staff, period!

I highly doubt that money spent on basketball would interfere with football. Obviously the university understands what its top sport is. No reason not to be better than we are at basketball and be respectable tho. Can easily have a decent basketball program while being a great football school. (Florida, Ohio State, Florida st.,oregon, etc...)

In an interview, he said he wold be looking for a university committed to building a program that would compete at the highest level.
