It wasn’t that long ago when he was always in the short list of up and coming coaches that everyone wanted.

He seems to have his addiction under control, but he’s had a lot of success at Bama so less stress might mean less triggering. If he’s straight I think he’ll do well.

Sark is basically coach in waiting though at Bama for whenever Saban decides to hang it up to go have tickle fights with Herbstreit working at espn. They want a situation like at Ohio state where Day took over after Urban and program didn’t miss a beat.

Maybe Texas will get Urban to come back. That would be pretty exciting. Like them or him or not, I think college football is always better off when Texas is competitive. They’ve been down a long time now

Programs that fired National championship winning coaches and have yet to recover:

-Texas / Mac Brown - Strong, Herman, Sarkinzyan

-Tennessee / Fulmer - Kiffin, Dooley, Butch, Pruitt

-Auburn / Chiznik - Gus, Boise guy

Did I miss any?

Jimbo wasn't technically fired from FSU... but still belongs in the category. He was certainly ran off.

He's there now. He could have named his job this year. If he called Michigan and told them he wanted to coach there, they would have fired Harbaugh yesterday to make it happen.

Osborne wasn't fired...he retired and they just never recovered. Solich made it to the national championship, but lost to Miami.

very short list; had to go back to 1986 with Penn State.

Penn State - Paterno, Tom Bradley, O'Brien, Franklin

I hate Penn State as much as Ohio State, wish neither one of those institutions any happiness.

Pete voluntarily departed Trojans of Southern Cal just before the hammer dropped. I think Pete, Jimmy Johnson and Switzer are only 3 collegiate coaches, who won national championships, to make the transition into NFL to eventually win Super Bowl.
