Has this been discussed? Are there any players from Griffin at or being recruited by any SEC schools that might have issues?

The 13-year tenure of head football coach Steve DeVoursney, who led Griffin High School to the Class AAAA championship last season, ended Thursday when the Griffin-Spalding County Schools board of education voted 5-0 to accept the resignation of DeVoursney and his wife, Jessica, a science teacher at the school.
The school board’s decision came in the wake of a five-month investigation into allegations of illegal recruiting of athletes and improper academic assistance, according to the final report obtained through an Open Records request by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Christian Owens, a WR commit, is a Griffin guy.

This is probably the tip of the iceberg in terms of HS recruiting violations.

This particular one or in general? I agree if in general. However its not routine to be caught on the academic side.
I saw the Grady incident was finally resolved for the recruiting and having kids from outside the area. probation, forfeits and post season ban.
ETA academic violations can mess with the players beyond though. Look at Jovon Robinson.

Griffin is loaded with players, so yeah there could be some issues for SEC schools. Christian Owens is committed to UGA. Jordan Colbert is being recruited heavily by AU. I've heard some grade concern rumors about him but I have no idea if there's any truth to them. UGA also just offered Trey Willis, a 2014 kid who had significant academic issues in the past but has a chance to make it.

looks like it started with a player who transferred to Spalding. Probably will just hurt this one player unless they have evidence of more
quote:
In October, Spalding principal Derrell Jeffcoat responded by asking for an investigation of his own by the school board after a transfer student from Griffin was found to be academically ineligible for sports. In a letter to the board of education on Oct. 28, Jeffcoat questioned the integrity of a “course recovery’’ program at Griffin that the student completed in 2011.

Seems like every time Griffin starts being a powerhouse again. They get caught cheating. From what I've always heard back in the mid 80s when they were prominent they got caught with kids 21 22 23 years old on the team.

I don't think there will be too many recruiting issues coming out of this. The big issue was his wife giving a student a grade for credit repair after only one day. It's possible the kid did the work depending on the schools policy but not likely.

Not really suprising. The biggest surprise is a lot of the high school shenanigans go pretty much unpunished with skirting the rules and transferring students around. Buford has made a living doing this.

Buford can do it, not fair but that can. City school status makes it OK...I believe Calhoun and a few other can get away with.

against the rules for McEachern...not Buford

Against the rules for anyone who transfers. They have to meet the requirements to be eligible immediately.

Which is sad. They should place them in AAAAA to make it fair for the other AA and AAA teams that can't (Recruit) players that live an hour away from campus. I have a big issue with them because they knocked my hometown out of several playoff games. . We damn near beat them a few years ago when we were ranked number 1 in the state but could never pull it off in the playoffs.

Your hometown can do the same thing as them. Just have open enrollment.

We don't have the same recruiting base that would be afforded in the area Buford is located.
Fitzgerald had it's run but we aren't the same caliber that we used to be when we competed against Buford and Carver every year in the playoffs.

You can have open enrollment is what I was getting at
