Kirby would rather definitely beat Kentucky by 11 than try and get some rhythm with a more talented QB.

I’m really concerned with this stubborn mentality

There were actually people bitching about our defense earlier in this game. We’re going to end up not allowing a TD.

Oh yes. That went terribly for LSU last year. Great point

Joe Borrows hanging from trees. You can’t sling a dead cat without hitting one. OU has had 2at least and we have had 2 and still have one and it ain’t worked. It also ain’t worked for OSU. It may. That’s be 33% of the times mentioned, great plan.

You want me to use Alabama from 2015 as well then?

Look, relying on transfer QBs is obviously dumb. But to act like you can’t win a Natty with them is also dumb.

That’s almost what this game feels like. We know from Bama that Monken can dial some stuff up. It was like we didn’t try today. But with the QB situation idk what we can do.

Can’t even finish this shite. Is this one of the worst games in Smarts tenure?

No, that would be SC last year.

Felt it was at least worth another look. They haven’t even been close when spotting balls today.

In three consecutive games we have had the lead against Alabama in the second half and in three straight games we have scored zero fourth quarter points against them. If we score literally one touchdown in either of those first two fourth quarters, we’re probably winning a national championship.
I agree with you, but remember that Fromm was able to put up points in the first half against them. It wasn't his ability, it was our poor play-calling in the 2nd half. That wasn't on our QB or even our offensive capabilities from a scheme perspective. Bama made adjustments and we didn't. Period.

quote:

So yes, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say having a good quarterback would’ve made a difference. Made a difference for Clemson. Made a difference for Bama against us both times.
It likely would have made a difference, but that wasn't the question. The question was whether or not our offense was capable of winning. It was stated that style of offense hadn't won in 10 years, therefore it is obsolete and incapable of winning it all. My point was that we did enough on offense to win the a championship.

quote:

That’s exactly what’s in question.
It isn't. As I said, the question was whether or not our offensive philosophy was capable of winning a championship. My argument is that it was good enough in the 2017 season and it wasn't our offensive philosophy that kept us from winning it all.

quote:

We’ve been on the doorstep of a national title time and time again under Kirby. Clearly something is holding us back.
Perhaps there are multiple things holding us back. We can't seem to get a "complete" team fielded in all aspects that can play consistently in all phases of the game. That's a big reason.

quote:

We all know we can win a bunch of games with Stetson or Fromm, but we can’t win a national championship with them. If we could have, we would have by now. We need one more boost and the only obvious place I can tell we can improve at is quarterback.
That's such a simplistic view of football. This isn't even about Fromm or Bennett. It's about the offensive philosophy.

quote:

Saban made the tough call pulling Hurts for the “unproven” Tua when by your logic, there should’ve been no good reason to do it. Championship.
He did it when his back was against the wall. It was his only play in that game. There were no second chances and it was obviously that we had gameplanned against Hurts so well that he had to make the switch from a pure strategic perspective. It wasn't merely an experiment or a chance to get Tua some reps for the future. It was a last-ditch effort to win the game, and it worked. It's not even in the same ballpark as what we were doing in 2018.

quote:

Swinney made the tough call playing Watson when there was no good reason to pull his starter. Next year: championship. Same thing again with Lawrence over Bryant.
I won't take more time to go back and look at that. I've done it several times in the past and it wasn't apples to apples, but it doesn't even matter. Fields by the accounts I recall wasn't outplaying Fromm in practice and he didn't show enough in his limited time to unseat Fromm. Fromm didn't play poorly enough to justify being unseated.
