Did you just make this up?

No

95 is needed for effective eradication, and 70-90 percent is needed for slowing the spread. And the point about mutation is of serious concern. I pray to god it doesn’t mutate, but that’s a contingency we can’t preclude at this point. I hope the studies you reference are true and this isn’t bad. There are also studies that show it’s as bad as initially thought, and even if it’s not fatal, it may leave permanent lung damage even in younger or healthier people.

Just wear a mask. The healthy people you might come into contact with might have immunocompromised family members at home.

Well sucks to be those 20%. Fact is only 5% of those 20% worlds die anyway. Everyone must quarantine forever because we have elderly people?

I didn't say this was my idea. I said that this is the idea behind the quarantining, the closures, the mask-wearing, and the rest. This is the idea behind public health in general.

quote:

How about those 20% take ownership on their own lives and protect themselves.

I agree with this but it's a bit like trying to protect yourself from secondary smoke back in the days when people were allowed to smoke anywhere. Some people think that the 80% have some responsibility to help out. But that becomes a political or even ethical question.

quote:

Also, there is no way 20% of our population is over 80.

No, but about 15% of the population is over 65. If you include people not over 65 who also have chronic health problems (obesity, diabetes, etc) that make them vulnerable, you are then talking about 20%-25% of the population...if not more.

quote:

Lastly, by your own admission the 20% is going to be exposed. So exactly what the frick are we doing here? Prolonging the inevitable?

I don't know...ask the governors in places like Texas and Florida. They were all in on the "open early" and minimize disruptions to business and everyday life...but what are you hearing them saying and doing now????

Are some teams trying to get their most important players in early COVID recovery? LSU? Clemson?

It's also an added bonus of having practice now. These kids are very low risk. If we're in for a resurgence in the fall, let it hit the team now and let the kids get over it.

Obviously, I'm not an expert, but I'd much rather go into Fall with a team full of people who're positive for the antibodies than a team full of kids who've never tested positive.

What you are implying is that the coaches are trying to do the best thing for the team by getting everyone exposed like our country should have done in the first place (unless vulnerable).
this has ALWAYS been the correct answer

Sweden got it 100% right

I am.laughing at the morons that seem to think that "experts" are saying that it is more likely that 25 million already have had it is bad news

that is EXCELLENT news

Did they though?

Sweden’s per-capita death rate is higher than that of the United States. And once again, herd immunity is only a thing if the virus doesn’t mutate.

I guess it’s a question of where you draw the line. What is an acceptable percentage of fatalities to you?

But that shouldn’t even be a question we should have to ask ourselves. Most of Western Europe has their shite under control because they aren’t snowflakes who melt at the thought of wearing a mask. Also they have deployed widespread testing to identify new outbreaks quickly, whereas Donnie wants to slow testing down. And now those countries are all reopen as certain states in this country are reclosing. The United States’ metrics are now the same as all of those brown shithole countries. So much winning, I’m getting sick of it!

We have a flu vaccine and we still have 40-50K a year die from the flu. We will have to see how much this virus continues to mutate. I hope they get it right , but we will be fine for 2021 as it isn't an election year.

With the huge spikes in cases right now, and as much as I hate to say it, we should probably be bracing ourselves for a fall without college football.

Yes and once Biden is elected the democrats will unveil their miracle cure that was discovered by a black trans woman scientist who was once raped by Brett Kavanaugh.

All of this was always going to happen, the media saying record numbers is like yeah, dah.

The virus was never going away. Do your best not to spread and stay away from those who are at risk.

This thing is just starting.

Or... wear your masks... respect those around you... and let the “curve” occur.. I guess... Unless Biden is elected... then “all of a sudden” it’s gone. FFS.

She recently became sick and tested positive.“We were being careless because we weren’t wearing masks,” she said. “No one was wearing masks.”

Put on a dam mask when out in public.
