I think we have a ceiling right now. And that ceiling is too low in an wnvironment where our competition sees the sky as the limit.

We were 5 yards away from winning the SECCG in 2012. That would have also almost been a guaranteed lock for the BCS title. Your position would be completely different right now had it not been for those 5 yards.

Yep. And those same people said (at the beginning of the season) they would be happy with this record.

But, its funny that none said a word about our superstar QB that threw the ball right to the defender when there wasn't a chance in hell for the receiver. That, and those two fumbles, cost us the game. And probably the letdown fact after mizzou taking the East. Motivation can only go so far.

Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborn, Vince Dooley, Bear Bryant...... seriously? Those are the comparisons!? College Football has changed.

Counter argument... Fisher, Saban, Miles, Meyer, Carrol. How about Malzahn, B. Kelly, C. Kelly if you want non winners who at least got in the game.

Championship games are not given based on tenure.

I think Richt has earned the right to see one more "wave" come through Athens. He got close with the first wave of talent when he first arrived, came close in the Stafford/Moreno years, came close once again in 2012...

I'm not sure if many people had us as serious contenders this year, and in many ways we ended up with an appropriate record given our QB in his first year, a patchwork secondary, and some decent opponents (although the losses didn't come in the expected games...headscratcher).

Next year will be a rebuilding year in my mind, but afterwards we have an all-world QB on the way, one top 5 recruiting class and hopefully more to follow, some weak teams in the East. Richt has done just enough for me to get himself 3 years to do something with Pruitt and some athletes on their way to Athens.

If voters react slightly differently in 2007, we get a chance in the big game. If we score at the end in 2012 against Bama, we get the right to smother ND in the big game. Yes, Richt probably should have pulled the trigger on that timeout, but the circumstances under which the game ended were pretty ridiculous. If either of those situations break our way, we probably win the title and Richt earns himself a lifetime at UGA.

We have been close. When we have talent, he can get us there. I don't know if anyone could have won the big one with our defense this year. Imagine playing Baylor or Oregon? I would argue that 9-3 and going to a second tier bowl is appropriate for our team this year. Yes, it was a roller coaster and we were able to hold onto hope for longer than expected, but minus the Florida loss, nothing was terribly surprising.

We are reloading just fine, we will take some lumps next year but I think we will get our shot in the next 3-4 years. If we don't come close, then Richt needs to go.

I think I rustled a few jimmies with the Republican comment haha. I'm saying the situations are similar because a lot of people want both gone, but the same side doesn't offer a solution for who is going to take the helm next. Just wanting someone gone is only half of it.

Also both parties are stupid as frick. If you really want to fix this country, do away with political parties.

What I don't see from the fire Richt contingent is suggestions on who would be better and how they would "fix" it

Then you either can't read or haven't been paying attention. There are volumes of threads dating back at least to 2006 about who and how.

I want the miracle cures offered by Gary Patterson, Mark Dantonio, and co :(

Honestly I wouldn't even mind Jim McElwain. Idk why but that seems like a decent hire to me.

You want to play "one play different"? Ok, one play different and Georgia loses to TN and/or UK, so there is no SECCG.

Ken Niumatalolo would be huge step forward. Just give me someone who cares and is not a cold fish.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, if Obama goes, the Constitution already establishes who takes the helm next: Joe Biden. If Biden goes simultaneously, then John Boehner, and so fort and so on.

I'm not saying triple option, I'm just saying it would be nice if our HBC cared.

I agree with the article for the most part BUT the entire "coaches" who stick around for 14 years thing is sort of telling. How many coaches stick around for 14 years who has failed as often as Mark Richt has in the last few years?

Couple this with the entire Bowden took 17 years, Bryant took 14 etc etc etc the game has changed. There are by few places a coach can stay where they don't win conference titles. Bowden didn't have that problem to begin with because they didn't have a conference and they were a LOUSY program before his arrival. UGA was not Pre Bowden FSU when Richt arrived....trying to claim otherwise is simply an insult.k. And Bryant may have had some lean years on his way to becoming a legend but he also beat a lot of teams he shouldn't have along the way and got better. Richt is not improving...it is the same old shite every year.

I think the best comparison is JoePa....and who in the frick would want to be compared to JoePa and Penn State??? Penn State has always been the Notre Dame of the East Coast....never playing anyone week in and week out nod benefitting from week schedule with a couple of good teams tossed in. That is why they lost so many national title shots before breaking through.

Mar Rich can coach, period. When he arrived at UGA he looked the part....and progressed nicely along the way. He is simply not progressing and in many instances is regressing. I don't think there is an an immediate hire that would do a better job. That is ridiculous. I don't even think there is anyone who would do a better job. But to pretend that UGA has not been underprepared and under motivated and has not been the victim of poor decisions at critical junctions time and time and time again is simply being blind. If you have a brilliant employee who is constantly under achieving you may not fire him, you may even be forced to increase his salary to keep him around if his under achieving is better than most peoples over reaching.....but your customer base doesn't have to be satisfied with under achieving...and that is the problem. The heat is good for motivation....Rich has never had enough of it.

And by the way...if you had a salesman selling ANYTHING whose salary approached $5 Million a year who only had to close 12 deals a year, 14 in a good year, who could only manage to close 8 a year you might keep him round but he wouldn't be the star Richt is supposed to be.....
