For sure. 10 guys can be dialed in and if 1 dude isn't paying attention, misses an assignment, trips, etc. then a perfectly executed play is a total bust.

I think people at the moment are more so grumbling because of the troubling fact that one of the things you absolutely need your QB to do to win big games these days, he hasn't shown an ability to do yet. People aren't mad that we're winning, people (or myself I guess, I can't speak for all) are very worried that if this doesn't improve and quickly we could lose quite a few games.
This ^
Also, if Kirby is going to say that the players who practice the best get to play, then there needs to the same evaluation if it doesn't translate to the actual game, which is the most important.
Looking good in 7 on 7's doesn't mean ish at this point.

He hasn't been put in a situation to try to win a big game yet. That was my point. Everyone screaming bench him, he doesn't have it. You don't know if he has it. Let's find out what happens before we freak out over something that hasn't happened. Kirby literally stated in his presser when asked about OL that they were experimenting against AP. Even moved Morris to the right side for a bit. Could have a good bit to due with limited play calling also if that was the case

I think everyone is fine with Gunner seeing what he can do against Tenn.
But lets say he looks like he did against AP as far as passing goes...then what?
All moot if he can get some down field passing completed + win the game by 1pts+

I don't care how far he throws it if we run for 200 and dump offs and screens are going for 5yrds a clip. That's a recipe for success. At some point he will have to throw the ball around the yard but if defenses are giving you a free 5 then take it. When they start creeping up and it's not working anymore burn them over the top.

That all sounds great but it’s extremely hard to score a lot of points 5 yards at a time. It puts a lot of pressure on your consistency in execution, penalties, etc. It’s no accident that the top offenses out there have a lot of explosive plays and are aggressive in creating those opportunities.
College offenses that can overcome the inevitable mistakes of their 20 year old players tend to win a lot.

I'm not saying he's looked great, he missed a few reads but it's understandable being his 3rd collegiate start. So far he's checking in and out of plays, changing protections, Moving the offense and not turning the ball over. People are wanting bench him and all he's done is what's been asked

Lol 5 yards at a time you'd never see a 3rd down. I know what you mean though. And yes explosive plays have to happen but I believe the defense will be better than pretty much every team we play and I still believe defense wins championships, as does smart. If you have a consistent offense that methodically marches down the field you will shorten the game and win TOP. So know you may not score a lot, but neither will the other team

I will take 5 yards at a time every fricking time all day. Especially with our defense and the compounding affect of keeping their defense on the field and our’s off.

I haven't seen one person on this board stating they were in favor of benching him. If someone has said it please point it out to me so I can say I was wrong. What everyone is saying is there are valid concerns over his ability to read and throw the deep ball and if he can't during the first half of the UT game Pug should be given a shot.
UT is gonna put 8 in the box and make us prove we can run on them and complete the short passes. Based of what everyone has saw so far they would be fools not to. On top of that if we decided to go the run/short pass route that plays into their hand in that their starting DBs are out, so they WANT to see that from us.
What we need to do FIRST is attempt to exploit those young, inexperienced DB's of theirs by stretching the field. That will open up the run/short passing game by pulling some defenders back from the box. Will Bobo attempt to exploit their weaknesses or play to their strengths? The first scripted plays are gonna tell us all we need to know regarding that.

Kirby also noted he wants to see him do what he does in practice. I’m sure he can press …: he just needs to pull the trigger.

Reality is if you average 5 yards each play you are gonna have a good day.

Averaging 5 yards per play over the course of a game in college football is pretty decrepit. To get to 400 yards of total offense you'd have to run 80 plays. That's why scoring is down in the NFL. Play your safeties deep and wait for the offense to frick up one or two plays in a row and be in a bad down and distance on third down. I'm with CrowDawg on this one.

Some betters must be taking UGA -7. They probably haven't been paying attention.
Or maybe they're just not overly emotional and overreactive about Georgia football.

If you are getting 5 and not losing yards on plays and not turning it over, that stat block changes. If you average 5 and have drive killing penalties and sacks then yes. In 2025, even when opportunities were missed down field, the plays were almost all positive. The last game we had 2 turnovers and the goal line deal that was not good, but a hair away from converting. Yes, we fricked those series up, but they were self inflicted things that can be cleaned up. If we didn’t have those there would not even be a discussion here.
I do not know what is going to happen this weekend, but I feel like we have the tools if we execute. Give me 5 yard runs and passes and no turnovers and we come out with a W.

Only a Disney Dawg would find the positive in throwing the ball 36 times and running it 40 times against an FCS team and only score 28 points.

He threw it downfield just fine against TX and ND
Did he though? Passer ratings of 99 and 134 isn’t good.

Is that so?
Sadly, based on our discussion, yes…..unless you now agree with me.
