With the mailman out there holding his own and JT looming, is the Mathis era over?

He has to unless Bennett is winning us a Chip.
Damn this D is good, though.

Glad he did and Kirby owed D'wan another shot with a big lead. D'wan was really nervous at first. There could be situations that he can come in and make plays on. I think the problem is there are so many QB's. Beck is probably going to redshirt; then next year you have D'wan, JT, Beck, and Brock.

Another chance at D-II basketball

Mathis was having some trouble in the first half due to several factors, one of which was simply the lack of support. The penalties killed drives and got him off his game. If he can get some clean play, I think he'll improve.

The Mathis time is done.
He didn't look any better at the end of the game when the pressure was off than he did at the first of the game.

He did look better, but not nearly as good a Stetson.

Could be some truth here......penalties were ridiculous but especially in the first quarter......big killer of drives....

What did Mathis do today that earned a do over. He ran the ball a few times to punt. He over/ under threw and missed wide open receivers.
Mechanically, Mathis looked terrible. He threw off his backfoot and tried to scramble first. His read options weren't good. He will not enjoy film study tomorrow/ Monday.
Bennet isn't the answer, but he knows the playbook and has had 4 years against a practice defense that's trying to kill him. Somebody better grow a pair and let their nuts drop or UGA and co is in for a long season.

No second chances here. We need to play who gives us the best chance to win. From what I saw today Bennett is the starter until JT is cleared.

Stet will have to start vs. AU as he provides the best chance to win.
There will be set plays for Mathis where he has the option to QB draw or sling it deep on 8 man fronts.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m not bashing Mathis or saying he’ll never be great or whatever but there were a few camera shots that were directly him and a couple that were on someone else with him in the background. I know they’re just small scenes and not the whole story but my point is Mathis never looked like he should have. A couple times it was after he made poor plays to end the drive. His head was down. He looked kind of annoyed but would go sit totally alone. Then after Bennett came in and did well it showed Tyrique Stevenson and Kearis Jackson and another offensive assistant around Mathis. They were obviously trying to tell him something he didn’t like because he kept shaking his head and arguing back. All this to point out that as bad as Fromm was last year, you always knew he’d keep the guys in it because he was a leader. Sometimes when things aren’t going well that’s more important than actually putting up numbers. Mathis has got to find a way to lead even when he’s having a bad day.
