Brandon Turnage isn't currently with the team but, as of now, the expectation is that he will join it in the near future.

Last I read on another site he wasn't on the roster and wasn't enrolled in school. Sounds like he's gone to me

I guess you saw Grey's post and link. Don't assume things until you hear for certain from the staff. Can he still leave? Yes, and so can every other player on the team. But don't assume anything. If it were a done deal the staff would have made an announcement.

I’m not assuming anything. Just stating what I’d read from someone who’s pretty locked in. And I doubt Kirby would make any announcement one way or the other. That’s not how he rolls.

There has been announcements for every player that transferred out that I can think of. We knew Tyrique Stevenson was leaving. We knew D'Wan Mathis was leaving, Jamie Newman, Justin Fields was leaving. Who came as a surprise to you? Kirby has addressed every player that has left that I can think of. None were kept under wraps and kept secret.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you?

Worth noting that all of the other players that have left the program were actually *enrolled* at UGA. No clue what will happen with the kid personally as I haven't been attempting to keep up, but if he does indeed go elsewhere, I'm not sure Kirby will need to say anything... perhaps may not even be allowed to in any official capacity? (Uncertain, but I know that they can't mention recruits by name until they have the Letter of Intent, unclear how that's handled for transfers in this scenario).

Im pretty sure any announcements from UGA were after someone left the program. Not before. Is that what you are implying?

I believe he’s implying Turnage was never actually enrolled at UGA thus never “officially” part of the program, therefore Turnage would be considered an active recruit and Kirby cannot comment.

Please link Kirby’s announcements on transferring players and I’ll gladly eat my crow. You know, the announcements where KIRBY personally told us that Stephenson/Mathis/Fields/Newman were transferring. Not saying it didn’t happen but I don’t think Kirby worries with those type things. Matter of fact I think he probably says that he’s worried about the players that ARE there.
None came as a surprise because it was reported elsewhere but Kirby didn’t call a PC to announce it.
Never said it was kept secret just that Kirby doesn’t address it unless asked about it.

It was announced that he had enrolled at Georgia by 247.

Another of Georgia's offseason transfer portal additions has joined the team in an official capacity. Dawgs247 has learned that former Alabama defensive back Brandon Turnage has arrived in Athens and is enrolled.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other. The kid/player would announce it....but Kirby certainly does comment when the kid announces.
Brenton Cox
“Brenton chose to withdraw from the University of Georgia … He’s now at another SEC institution,” Smart told reporters. “We wish him all the best.”

Justin Fields

Those are just two. But typically a player makes a formal announcement and then coaches comment....tghat isn't "just the way he (Kirby) rolls". That is pretty much every coach in the country.

ETA
It appears as if Kirby did make the announcement when Dwan Mathis transferred, though.

ATHENS — Georgia coach Kirby Smart announced that quarterback D’Wan Mathis entered the transfer portal on Monday, ending speculation that had grown over the weekend.

Yes. The other poster was saying Kirby would not announce a kid will transfer because Kirby "doesn't roll that way." No coach (That I recall) announces a player is transferring. The player makes it known. Coaches....most if not all...then comment on it. Kirby does, too, just like every other coach.

Like I told the other poster, I think we are just miscommunicating.

But as far as I can tell, not by the university... I'm not telling you that I'm correct, simply positing a scenario that would explain why UGA hasn't made any commentary on the situation to my knowledge. He's not on the roster as of right now... and even if 247 is correct and he had signed up for classes, if he drops all of those classes before attending, I would imagine that the university avoiding specific mentions of him likely helps any case of retaining the initial counter were he to end up somewhere other than Athens in the end. Anywho... it's a lot of energy to expend on a guy that likely was depth this year and maybe competing for a spot next season.

I think you know me well enough to know that I am not always correct, either. I was just going by the article that said he had enrolled. If he had not enrolled at the University what was he enrolled to?

This makes perfect sense, and makes me tend to believe you may be correct.

I think their was a presumption by the Sports Writer that he moved to Athens and therefore enrolled. I get the vibe he did not actually enroll. If he did not enroll, not sure Kirby even can talk about him.

I'm not sure. I am not up to all of the new rules when it comes to recruiting and the transfer portal.

To be clear....GeorgiaBoy's point kind of stands. It IS unusual for a coach to announce a transfer. However, it does happen, and has happened with Kirby Smart. It is not unusual for a coach to address it afterwards. Kirby has done it on many occasions and even Dabo did it with Kendrick's transfer to us.
The only reason I posted that Kirby had announced D'Wan Mathis' transfer was kind of an unfair gotcha on my part. No harm was meant toward GeorgiaBoy on my part, even though....looking back...it seemed to me that I was being a bit of a jerk.
