According to an email by UGA, "A staff member who works in Athletics was confirmed this morning to have tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last on campus on March 6, 2020. He is being treated in a local hospital."
ETA: A UGA Honors Student has now tested positive at the University Health Center

I’ll riot against a virus as long as everyone else maintains a 6 foot perimeter

On the upside, that's 12 days ago... there's a good chance he was exposed since his last time on campus. The longest it seems to take to show up is 14 days...

Lot of people got exposed on spring break, hence we are at about the point where a lot of folks should be experiencing symptoms if they’re going to. If we can make it to the end of March with hospitals still clicking we should be good to ride this thing out

Idiot college kids in Florida packed like sardines on the beaches and in bars and clubs. If they could be identified they should be kicked out of school.

If the news didn't create the fear mongering monster, would you have noticed anything different than any other flu season? Hmm? Thats right, no.

You're a moron.

Hes right.
The normal flu has 25k to 50k fatalities in the US and 400k to 600k fatalities worldwide.
An additional 5k to 10k US casualties would have been chalked up to a worse flu season than normal.
It would have been noticed. But not a blip of fear or pandemic.

You’re right, I wouldn’t have noticed the complete absence of sports if not for the media.
The NCAA wouldnt have taken a $700 million bath if not for the media.
The MLB wouldn’t be looking at cancelling their draft if not for the media.
Am I out of touch? No, it’s everyone else who is wrong.

His point is that the NBA doesnt cancel the season when 1 or 2 people get the flu (which is plenty deadly by volume).

Y’all can keep the conspiracy theory bullshite in the other thread. Reality is what it is no matter how you try to interpret the incomplete statistics. If it helps you cope, go for it but do it somewhere else.

Interesting choice of words.

I dont claim anything is a conspiracy.
But "worst flu season in 5 years" doesnt put eyes on the news or sell newspapers.
How many unidentified strands do you think we have survived since the advancement of cable television? Hell... since the advancement of the internet.
Is this serious? Yeah.
But the best prescriptions for a healthy society have been things that we should do normally.
Wash hands better.
Stay home when sick.
Wear a mask when we dont feel well (even at home).

Well, trying to make meaning and comparison from an incomplete data set (covid-19) to a data set that has had years of observation (common flu strains) seems like a fools errand buts that’s your prerogative.
Again, there’s already a thread for this kind of conjecture and bullshitting. Just because you don’t want to play with IT and RD and DJ doesn’t mean you get to invade my sandbox.

The corona virus is a hoax bro. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you will be free. And I'm not going to go to some other thread to make sure everyone knows it.

Final message of an Italian doctor to a peer RIP
“You in Codogno were the first to enter the war, with fear, but with a superior sense of duty,” Mussi wrote to his friend. “And you've been defeated. We have all been defeated with you. It is absurd, devastating. We are the first barrier and we have no protection, we are getting sick in great numbers and risk making our patients ill.”

We will find out whether or not covid-19 takes a bite out of the young. Passing cell phones around is a great way to share the covid experience.
