Coley has a big problem: Georgia doesn’t have any receivers that can consistently get open and catch the ball and good DC’s see that. When you can’t throw downfield with any confidence it simplifies the defense’s job.
T’was a problem in fall practice and it might not go away this year.

We have 1 of 2 problems
Either Coley won’t call the deep passes or Jake won’t throw them unless they’re wide open. Seeing as we said the same thing about Cheney, I’m leaning toward Jake needing to open it up and take some chances occasionally. Don’t be reckless but if it’s 1 v 1 and the receiver is only a half stride ahead why not see if you can make the throw instead of taking the 3 yard sure thing. That will ultimately push these defenses back from loading the box.

Coley seemed to have a change of heart 2nd half. I think these coaches outthink themselves. We constantly get outcoached this way. I have to believe Fromm is privately getting annoyed at how he plays out of his mind only to get handcuffed by his coaches near the end of the game.

In fairness, ND was playing to not give up a big play. They took the deep pass away from us, and we had a hard time with our short game.
People should not overreact. We will continue to get other teams best games. ND played an excellent game. They had an effective game plan.
Things will be fine if we don't panic. I mean, we just beat the #7 team in the country, and the only reason it was so close is because we muffed a punt and ND committed PI in the end zone that was not called. Otherwise we win by 20.

looked like the WRs had big problems blocking ND

Could be. We have a lot of freshmen at WR, and blocking in the open is difficult.
I would have liked to have seen us run up the middle more, but it is what it is.

I don't know whether to blame Coley or Smart but that was some shitty coaching last night.

Let's be honest. That first half offensive play calling was probably what Kirby wanted. It was a scheme designed "not to lose the game". I hated it. I remember at one point Fromm was 5 of 6 passing for 16 yards. Are you kidding?
Meanwhile Notre Dame played the game as if they had nothing to lose(which was true). They run blitzed to stop the run. They sent the house a few times on pass plays. Very aggressive. Everything they needed to do with their limited talent(compared to ours) they did.
Just my opinion, we need to take more shots downfield. Open things up. If we play offense like we are "scared to make a mistake" we will lose a couple regular season games. I am not down on Coley yet, just thinking Kirby needs to let Coley/Fromm cut it loose.

Had to settle for 3 on Simmons’ drop in the corner of the EZ as well.Woukdve been a really good catch but it was in both hands and he dropped it, and those are catches that are expected to be made.

instead of the interior where we should have had a significant advantage
We ran into interior several times in the 4th gtr and got stuffed.Completly predictable.
We've GOT to run some play action and boot leg on 1st down OCCASIONALLY on 1st down when teams are putting 10 in the box.
We did attack the perimeter way too much in the passing game though.
We're light years behind Bama and LSU on offense and don't see us catching up anytime soon with
Coley.

My biggest pet peeve against any OC is when we are 3rd down and 6+ yards, and we throw the ball to someone behind the LoS, or attempt a run between the tackles or a jet-sweep, or we have routes that purposely stop 1-2 yards just inside the 1st down mark.
Last night, Coley did virtually all of these multiple times. 3rd and 11 twice and he orders bubble-screens. 3rd and 14 twice and he’s got 3 of 4 routes not crossing the 14, so Fromm has no choice but to throw to Pickens who’s the ONLY deep guy, but he’s got a DB draped over him both times (both of which should have been called PI’s btw - fkn refs). And on one 3rd and 9 he runs Herrien on a pure inside dive. Not even a draw, just a straight up dive.
I just don’t get it. If you need 9, 11, or 14 yards on 3rd down, you send 4-5 receivers past 9, 11, and 14 yards and hit the open one. Let the RB be the check-down if there’s an all out blitz. We have an OL that averages 329 lbs. Give them a chance to block.
ND got like 5 or 6 shoe-string tackles at or behind the LoS in 1v1 situations on shitty low percentage of success play calls.
Coley never seemed to hit them at their week spots. They were stacking 7-8 in the box and he just ran right at them or ordered plays that generally started behind the LoS in between the hash-marks rather than outside the edges or down field.
It just wasn’t very good. Kirby not going for it on 4th and a half yard was just dumb too.

Coley was shite. I mean it's literally the same playbook as Chaney.

You can’t tell me Kirby didn’t tell him to play not to lose beginning with that field goal.
