And, yet, Athens doesn't have a go-to bbq place (at least, not that I've found without having to drive out of town).

Hit up Rooters on Whitehall - they're only open Thursday-Sunday. Get the large pulled pork sammich with the habanero sauce. You will thank me.

I'll give you that. There should be good BBQ that isnt 15-20 min outside of town

Man, used to be some of the best spots to eat were Springhouse and Walters BBQ ....

The other thing is how can a college town be a foodie town? Athens was built on cheap food, cheap beer, and cheap drugs...

Butt Hutt isn't bad by any means. Just not the earth shattering bbq joint you'd think Athens would have.

True, it is good but Athens could have a better one in town. Pulaski Heights is also solid IMO, but I know the hipster vibe may turn some off.

Have been meaning to try Pulaski Heights but the overly-artsy vibe has been keeping me at bay. I'll get around to it eventually.

I enjoyed it, like you said with Butt-Hutt, it's nothing earth-shattering. I'd probably rate Butt-Hutt slightly better.

butt hut is so damn average. i just get shane's when i want BBQ now for convenience. ive tried a lot of places, too. i think harry's pig shop might have been my favorite. maybe kelly's if that counts, which i say it doesnt since it's jamaican.
