Not sure if any of this is relevant now, but kind of interesting anyway...

After crash-landing on his feet when the Jets were ready to move on from him, Schottenheimer put in a solid effort last year for a team that generated a surprising record of 7-8-1.

This year, the Rams are surprisingly bad. Per a league source, players on offense are starting to grumble privately about the coordinator.

Nothing went as St. Louis had it planed.

Schottenheimer failed in his efforts to reimagine the Rams as a high-flying offensive team. His game planning was poor, and he too often tried to fit square pegs into round holes. However, his most egregious error was the passing concepts he employed when his franchise quarterback was under center.

As the passing charts indicated, most of the Rams offense was designed around short passes. Now, there is nothing wrong with the short game being the foundation of your passing attack. Zone run schemes, and the west coast offense typically take advantage of such passes. The biggest problem with the Rams heavy short passing game design came with the route designs. So many of the routes run by receivers featured curls, and shallow comeback routes.

Schottenheimer forced Sam Bradford to consistently drill throws to well-covered receivers in the middle of the field. Bradford would make plenty of these throws with proficiency, only to see his pass catcher tackled immediately. Schottenheimer did little to nothing to create space for his receivers to work with, thus failing to help out his quarterback.

Would he do better with a QB who doesn't act like monteg?

It isn't unreasonable to be concerned about schottenheimer, especially when the criticisms from his prior jobs are popping back up regarding his current team. I'm not saying fire him, just that the problems may be a little deeper than just the inadequacies at QB.

I see your point. However, college and pros are worlds apart. We have a QB who can't do shite without giving the defense a good chance at a pick. I am willing to give him a chance because our QB can't handle anything other than vanilla.

Nope. Unfair to evaluate him when he comes into a QB situation so bad that we have to transfer in a QB who got beat out in competition at a lesser program.

Shott deserves a few years to see what he can do with a developing Eason. I just found the prior criticisms interesting, especially about play design and play calling. But he can get better...just as Bobo got better over time.

I'm not disagreeing with you about the notion of he should improve over time but we don't have time for him to get better. He's about to inherit a QB that by reasonable analysis one could argue might be the best QB UGA has had in a very long time (we'll see how it pans out). I'd hate for Eason's years to be squandered with an OC who is also developing. He needs to be developed by the time Eason arrives in January, and especially next fall. How many years do you have to be an OC on the big stage before you're developed? As long as he's been in the game to include growing up learning from and watching his dad at work, he should be plug and play. How many times were we going to run that friggin bubble route that wasn't there all night? He didn't have anything better than that? Why hasn't Marshall seen more carries? When will we see even an attempt at just one wildcat play with Bauta that no one has gameplanned for (and I've never been in the "Bauta is our man" camp)? Come on, he's got to have more up his sleeve than what we've seen so far. This is so frustrating with or without #27.

Maybe he didn't learn that much and he's only where he's at because of his name? I hope not. But there are idiot sons out there...like the one at Alabama named Kiffin for example.
