I know the big headline for the injury report in the postseason will obviously be Beck — for whom the prospects do not sound promising based on what I have seen. However, has anyone gotten info on our punter Thorson? This guy has been pretty ace this season as a punter. Going into the postseason with a backup QB and the potential to need to win defensive, lower scoring games, the possibility of not having our best punter is not good at all.

Happy to have the SECCG victory — imo it’s almost as good as a national title. But it really came at a cost this season in terms of injuries. Luckily seems like no big injuries on the defense in the game.

Prayers sent, Thorson is a huge piece of the Defense. Great player...

Don’t know about the punter but I would be surprised if the public knows anything definitive about the QB situation until game time. Georgia really gains nothing by making an announcement (unless it is a decoy) by publicly stating who the QB will be for the playoff game. Let others speculate. It seems that there may be some precedent for this with CKS and it isn’t a bad strategy barring leaks which can be denied if they do in fact occur. But I think history shows he is pretty effective at keeping it close to the vest if he wants to do so.

If either injury is bad then they require surgery pretty soon which will be hard to keep secret. No surgery means a strain or sprain which is good for both.

A buddy told me that thorson was our back up behind Beck for holding PATs and FGs. So somebody will have to do that too.

That was mentioned on the TV broadcast. Gunner came in as the holder.

Just an FYI, when you tear a ligament, it’s called a strain. There are various grades of a strain. Usually grade 1 is a strain with no tear, grade 2 has a partial tear and can either heal on its own or require surgery and grade 3 is usually a full tear requiring surgery.

If this his UCL, even a grade 2 would keep him out of the playoffs and not require surgery

Luckily we recruited another great punter in Drew Miller last year.

Could be a worse situation.

I stand corrected. What is a partial tear with no surgery? 6 weeks?

Obviously depends on the extent of the partial tear, but it would probably be more in the 2-3 month recovery with a lot of rehab.

Even a grade 1 strain could be 2 months.

I’m guessing Beck got some news that he’s not 100% happy with and is in the process of a 2nd opinion before they announce anything
