We played above everyone's expectations this year. Played "The best team in the history of NCAA football" to the last play. No dishonor at all and a whole lot to look forward to. Great Bowl game, and with a win a legitimate shot at finishing the season in the top 4 and possibly, top 2, depending on how Bama plays the next two games. Yes the loss stings, but no one predicted we would be this good, this year, NO ONE. We finish out with a great recruiting class and go into next year with any even stronger team. What's to be bitter about?

Non-retarded adult: we exceeded expectations and when our goals were firmly in our grasp our actually retarded coach pissed it away. The end.

In time we will look back and appreciate this season. Right now it is just tough to stomach another close one like that.

Also don’t the playoff teams comprise the final top 4 in the rankings? Legitimate question, not trying to be negative that would make us #5 at best.

Grow the frick up. Everyone hates to lose. You think Kirby is a happy camper right now? You think he isn’t going to relive some of his decisions? Dollars to donuts he hits the recruiting trail first thing in morning. He is relentless.

I lived through all of the Dooley years, the Goff years and the Richt years. There is absolutely no comparison.

Kirby has been a head coach for all of three fricking years. He’s had the best in the business on the ropes two years running. His time will come.

Gee, I can't fricking fathom it...

Your post is mostly right, and if you had given me that season on the front end, or hell even 3 or 4 weeks ago, I'd be totally on board.

But calling this season successful fails to acknowledge what just happened in the last quarter-and-a-half of that football game. It fails to factor in a complete failure by the coaching staff with a playoff berth on the line.

You can't just ignore the circumstances of that quarter like it didn't happen.

The goals of every season are

1. Win the East
2. Win the SEC
3. Win the CFP

We failed on two of three. Youth, inexperience, rebuilding, etc just sound way to close to the “next year” bullshite I’ve been hearing since I was a toddler.

So the season is a failure based on the last few minutes or even the last play. Gotcha.

This. In a rebuilding year. There ain’t a team in the nation we can’t beat......we stay the course we are as close to becoming elite as we’ve ever been.

Bad call? Unquestionably. But live and learn. The futures bright. Right now sucks.....again.....but outside of Alabama who would you prefer to be? Maybe Clemson......no one else......and Clemson ain’t closeplaying a SEC schedule. We are a top 2 team AGAIN.....in a rebuilding season....against one of the best teams EVER.

That moment was a failure that minimizes any regular season success that came before it. No question.

Take any other aspect of life. School, business, military, etc.

If you have three goals and fail at two of them, was it a success or a failure?

No, you can’t.....but you also can’t discount the other 2.5 quarters. Sound game plan and a well coached team. It sucks but we are at least a top 4 team in a rebuilding year. The LSU loss is more problematic than this one.....win that game and we are in.....
