and I didn't put this in the other bobo thread because that one is primarily focused on what we would do to replace him, and that's not what this thread is about.

I think it would be pretty damn odd seeing him lead another program, when you consider that that rarely happens. When is the last time we've had a big time coordinator go on to be a head coach? Neil Calloway was the last I can think of, but a)he was just an OL coach b)he wasn't very well liked, and c)UAB has always been an afterthought. Van Gorder doesn't really count because he went to 1AA. We've had plenty of coordinators leave for other schools, but for other coordinator positions. I don't know the last time we've had a major coordinator (OC or DC) go on to be a head coach somewhere else. I'd ask the same for HC but we haven't had a head coach leave for another school since like the 30s so that's irrelevant.

I know it would sure feel weird tuning into a CSU game and seeing bobo be the head coach. I wouldn't like it very much.

Well get used to it.

I am excited for Bobo and I want to see if he has the moxie to be a successful head coach. If he ever wants to really have a shot at being the head dawg in Athens then he needs to go and build some experience so when the time comes and "Mama calls" he has a stout resume.

Plus he should view it as a three or four year vacation in the Rockies. Could be much worse places that he could wind up.

CSU won't hire him without a $7 million or more buyout clause. You think MCGarity will pay that when the time comes?

I think a lot of it depends on Richt's plans. If Mark is going to stay at UGA for another 5+ years then Bobo should probably take the best HC job he can get and hope he can be hired by UGA after CMR leaves. If Richt has privately told Bobo that he wants to leave in the next 3 years, then Bobo might well stay and get the HC job offer regardless. The point being is if I was going to take a HC job I would want enough time to commit to their program as opposed to staying just 2 or 3 years and going back to my alma mater.

There are some people out there, myself included, who would not be willing to promote Bobo to HC if he has no HC experience. I don't care how long he's been at UGA or how good he is as an OC, if he has no HC experience, I don't want him. Too much risk. See Muschamp. A good coordinator does not automatically translate to a good head coach.

Having said this, the only way Bobo would get in as a HC if it were up to me, is if he gains experience elsewhere. If his ultimate goal is HC at UGA, he has to take a HC job elsewhere (CSU) first, because he'll never* get HCIW by staying at UGA.

*If it were up to me. Which obviously it is not...

All of us fans can talk about "how they'd better not" do this or do that, but none of that shite really matters. At the end of the day, we're still going to go to games or watch them on the SEC network that provides revenue to the program. I actually think Bobo stands a WORSE chance of being HC at UGA if he leaves; if he stays, he's basically a shoo-in.

Yeah, I realize my hesitancy to promote Bobo with no HC experience means shite. I even put that disclaimer at the bottom of my post. I also didn't say anywhere that I'd stop being a fan if it happened.

Well you are a better man than most. Most coaches at all levels float around until they either fizzle out or wind up in that dream head job. Everywhere is a stepping stone until you land at a Notre Dame, Alabama, Meatchicken, tOSU, UGA, USCw, etc.

I think Bobo's biggest weakness is a lack of head coaching experience. They pay him peanuts as an OC. People already think he is just going to stay and continue to be a "company man". Sometimes, that kind of loyalty comes back to bite you and people within the organization will overlook you. I also think large schools are going to be a little bit more gun shy when it comes to pulling the trigger on coordinators with no HC experience prior to, case in point Agent Muschamp at UF.

Bobo needs to go go lol!

I personally think it's all about how much we ante up. If we pay him commensurate with what others of his caliber are I think he stays. I doubt he really WANTS to uproot his gigantic arse family where he's been the last 13 years and leave his alma mater. But if mcgarity continues to be a scrooge and offer him pennies and CSU offers him a few mill, that's pretty enticing.

If Bobo does go, how many recruits would we also lose? I would imagine Eason would be gone because others have said he likes Bobo so much...

probably more than I'd like to think about. Eason has already said himself that the only way he won't come here is if bobo or richt leave, so there he goes. Probably Godwin I'd assume. I would think a lot of offensive guys would take a long hard look.

Not you, but a lot of ppl seem to be assuming that Bobo is already a shoe in for the job.

I think he is top 3. At least in my opinion looking at the names thrown out there.

Obviously I think Oregon's OC Scott Frost gets a very strong look and he has a great pedigree. He has been coached by Stanford’s Bill Walsh, Nebraska’s Tom Osborne, the New York Jets’ Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick, and Jon Gruden at Tampa Bay. He has two Natty rings as a player, potentially a Natty ring as a coach this year. He played a few seasons in the show. His total offense last year was the all time record set at a school that's known for some gaudy offensive stats.

Head coaching experience is vastly overrated. McGarity should step up to the counter and pay his coordinators the big raises that they've earned.

I hope Bobo eventually becomes the UGA head coach without having to go out in the wilderness somewhere to prove himself.

If Bobo is offered he would be a fool to stay even if we match the offer monetarily. Dude has a bazillion kids and needs the money. Plus head coaching experience is worth a fortune if you can cut it....I think he will prove to be another Muschamp with no defense at all but who knows????
