I'd reclassify to a year earlier too for that kind of money.

Also, $6M for a high school junior? This is getting out of control.

Was he held back a grade like a lot of these kids are now?

I just don't believe that one. Someone's lying - either to the kid or to the reporter.

If he had enough credit hours he can. *subtle brag* My son skipped his senior year of high school and graduated his junior year because he had enough credits.

I get that, but in my experience, a lot of football players seem to be intentionally held back for sports and not because they are failing school., which gives them the advantage of being more physically and mentally mature vs the people they are playing. Just wondering if this kid is 16 or will be the same as the average age of incoming non sports Freshman at their college this Fall.

Parents are doing that starting in preschool so their kids are a year older from the get go for all sports. I almost wish I’d have done that with my boys. There’s a big difference between 16, 17 and 18.

My old high school’s league put in a rule that players could not start a season after turning 19 to combat the extreme cases. Basically someone who turns 19 in the fall could play football but not winter or spring sports, for example.

That seems reasonable. In my experience, the kids who were held back were not the top players. It was more of the fringe D3 types whose parents had just lost perspective. That may have changed and is definitely anecdotal.

ETA: I also imagine college coaches take age into account. If some kid was born in July (already one of the very oldest kids in their class) and was held back anyway, their super senior year HS performance is likely way closer to their ceiling that the kid they’re competing with who is in his true class and was born in April or May. If performance is close, I’d take the player who is almost two years younger every time, especially if their academic performance is comparable.

Yes he was. Juju was originally c/o ‘25, then held back and is now back to his original class.

Rumor is growing that we might get Bussey the current A&M 5 star commit that hasn’t signed. I read the staff has been in contact with him several times over the past couple of weeks. Would be a huge get.

Lincoln County's secret for all those years was holding kids back in kindergarten. I kid you not. The assistant head coach was also the elementary PE teacher and hed be scouting kids in kindergarten lol.
