I haven't been following as closely with 2020 as I have previous classes - What is the explanation for why Kirby hasn't kept as many of the top in-state kids headed to Athens?
He'd done a great job at that whole Wall Around Georgia thing, and it appears to have fallen off this year.

We found better prospects outside the state with the exception of a few that we missed on like Murphy.

Braun to Gators...
Is this new and didn't see it?

The Florida Gators picked up commitment number 23 on Friday when offensive lineman Josh Braun (6-6, 335, Live Oak, FL. Suwannee) committed to the Gators. Braun who was committed to Georgia for months left the Bulldogs class on Wednesday just days after offensive line coach Sam Pittman left Georgia for Arkansas.

Meh, if he's the one that we lose then I'm okay with it.

Can’t wait for Mullen to allude to how this was some major coup and a sign that the tide is shifting in Florida’s favor.

We have 14 commits of which 2 are OL in the top 40, 3 in top 150, and 4 in the top 170. So....if we had to lose a player, at least we lost one that we have depth in the recruiting class as well as on campus.
Obviously I want all the 5 stars and trench-feeders as possible, but the person and position make it ok to me.

Wait a minute, I thought Pittboss went to Arky? This is the kid who only wanted to play for Pittman right?

We have only gotten 4 out of 50 for the 2019 and 2020 GA top 25 prospects. People shite on Richt for this. I saw a lot of WR and DL players that we didnt get. Concerning to me.
I'll put my blind faith behind kirby tho. Just hate losing GA kids at positions of need.

You think that’ll stop Dan from making this into a positive for Florida at the expense of UGA?
Dude would be an excellent politician, he knows how to pander to his base despite delivering marginal results

Yep, I have noticed the same. I just checked our team ranking on 247 yesterday and we have already dropped one slot down to the 8th ranked class with two 5 stars aka we are trending in the wrong direction. Meanwhile Clemson has six 5 stars and a total of 6 highly quality players from our state one of the a 5 star. Even LSU is pulling players from Georgia now but I guess this is to be expected when you shoot and miss badly in duals.

We will finish 5th or 6th this year. Not bad at all, but still a big dropoff. My guess is that Kirby would like to do a few things differently this year in hindsight.

Which ones?

On 247, we are 1.7 pts off on from Florida with 9 less croots.
I don't think Kirby is worried.

Some of them are simply misses or we are players for better prospects out of state. I will say, I believe Kirby may have to reevaluate his philosophy. We aren't a national brand like Ohio st, Bama, or Clemson yet and I think he's gotten a little caught up in chasing the "2 in the bush" when there's one in the hand.

It was, but he doesn't have an offer from Pittman at Arky, I believe.
Mud Lizards were recruiting him the whole time, so I guess he decided to settle.

So do we just ignore the 5*s we get from across the country since they aren’t from GA?

For 2020
Murphy
Anderson
Hudson
Walker
Capers
Ojulari
Baker

No but we only have two 5 stars so far in this recruiting season and only 1 of those is from out of state: Mekhail Sherman, Washington, DC. Obviously we don't know who we will end up with after NSD but it appears we are having a down recruiting year based on Kirby's previous standards.

Murphy- Wants to be a DE in a 4-3 system
Anderson-No clue
Hudson- We have Rosemy committed and Smith about too- Both ranked higher
Walker-Was a miss
Capers -Two receivers ranked higher
Ojulari- We're stacked at OLB and are bringing in the #2 players at that position
Baker- We have two receivers ranked higher
Again, most of these we have players from outside the state that are ranked higher and the coaches feel better about.

Not time to panic, yet. We also have the fewest committed. Nobody ahead of us has near the number we have. We are in it for a good number of highly rated players and will still finish with a top 5 class with a chance to do better than 5.
That said, we have missed on a couple of players we felt we would get, and you are right, that we are not flying as high as we once were. But that should be a given right now. Until we show we can get back to the playoffs or win the big game it will be tough. We need to generate some excitement around the program. That can be done in a lot of ways, but for now, I will trust Kirby.
