Depending on who they get, it could actually help them, ironically enough.

If I was Kirby, I'd be telling any recruit considering Auburn that Gus is a lame duck and any coach he hires will very likely be gone soon. That's not negative recruiting, that's being honest.

Kit has his PhD, and is LB coach at Dalton, apparently. My dad went to DHS with Watts Dantzler's dad Danny, so we watched his recruitment with great interest.

Plus, two of Watt's cousins were in my class and the one after.

Americus, is Mays’ departure expected? How does it affect what we do with the rest of this class?

Jones and Van Pran is a must. Jones could start with this current situation.

Georgia signed seven 5-star prospects in the 2018 recruiting cycle. If Cade Mays leaves Athens, he'll be the third 5-star to not make it to the 2020 season.

The Bulldogs also lost the #3 tight end and #5 outside linebacker from the 2018 class.

With Fromm & 4 of 5 OL now gone, Kirby Smart has just been given the gift of 8 straight months of “can’t get no respect” with which to hammer the kids on campus, ahead of the 2020 season.

Wasn't someone I was expecting to leave, or had heard anything on, until very recently.

It's three o'clock on a Wednesday
The Georgia crowd shuffles in
There's an old fan sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin

He says, "Americus, can you tell me a story
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and but most of his passes will be complete
And I'll be happy to see our next QB's throws "

La la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

Sing us a song, you're the recruiting man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And Cade got us feelin' fricking downright miserable

There have been quiet rumors about it on Vol boards dating back to last spring. Then it started heating up again late in the season. Granted there are lots of rumors in Vol land, particularly about UGA, but this one had more creedence than most IMO. If you follow Tennessee boards and reporting, you can see an interesting pattern in who's spreading rumors and who's doggedly shooting them down. Same pattern with Jim Chaney rumors, which started before the end of the 2018 regular season, and then was roundly denied by some insiders. I think Chaney had decided to leave before early signing day 2018. Pruitt would sacrifice his own pinky and then some to take Kirby down, by hook or crook.

Losing Cade hurts, but there's a decent chance he had a foot out the door before this season started. Best rid of him with his divided loyalties. And I suspect the timing of his announcement wasn't random, since Fromm announced today and Newman is set to decide soon.

I don’t know what’s in the water down there but they kick out some pretty good athletes.

He's got to do a hell of a lot better than stealing Chaney to do that.

Looks like DJ Lundy is getting a serious look as a LB prospect. He got a recent UGA offer and Dan Lanning was just in town visiting him. He postponed his commitment as well.

Thoughts?

Ha, I was about to say "down from Ringgold or Fort Oglethorpe, up there from practically everywhere else", but then I clicked on your profile and saw.

I’m really surprised more kids don’t come out of Murray Co to college. Some dude from Murray Co nearly killed me on kick coverage in 91. I still remember seeing the tops of my cleats then waking up looking at the moon.

Haven’t seen it posted with all the chaos from today but Auburn’s O-Line coach has stepped down. That has to pretty much seal up Broderick Jones to stick with the good guys correct?

It's been discussed.

Short answer:

They've not been happy with the OLine coach for awhile. he was not a main recruiter for Broderick Jones, so it might not have much of an affect on him. However, it would be his position coach, so to think it would have zero affect would be a mistake.

I think it will be determined when they make their replacement hire. If they make a big splash it could spell trouble for us, if they whiff it could seal the deal for us.
