How did they host 5 championship games?

Luck of the draw. Just the way the brackets were set up in the 90s. One year in one bracket, the next year in the opposite one. In 1993, the AAA game was Thomas Co. vs. Thomasville High and it was supposed to be in their stadium, but they didn't have enough seating. They were playing up in AAA when they should have been in AA. As a result, the GHSA moved it a mile down the street to Thomas County's stadium...and there still wasn't enough seating. That was the most electric high school game I've ever witnessed, and I've been to a ton of them in my 52 years on this earth.

Worth Co...

Some of the very best high school games I saw during the 90s were the Worth Co. vs. Thomas County Central games. Seemed like a playoff atmosphere every time they hooked up.

That whole region back then was a murderer's row. Thomas County, Thomasville, Worth, Cairo, Crisp Co. The Albany schools, and Lee Co. The only good Albany school then was Dougherty County, and back then, Lee Co. was everyone's Homecoming Game.

That's why that region was called the Highway 84 Corridor. Because the title those years went thru Highway 84.

In fact, from 1988-1998, there was a 1-AAA team in 9 of those finals...and they won 8 of them. In 2 of those games...1990 and in 1993...both finalists were from 1-AAA.

I'm in sales, so this is end of month/end of quarter/end of year level bonuses.

My boss isnt holding my nose to the grindstone. This is self motivated for the paychecks. DVR is my hero right now.

What happened to Cedar Grove?

Damn, they were loaded and not just for a AAA team

Looks like they lost in the 1st Rd.
I know they had to forfeit some games...did they also lose some guys?

I'd be shocked if PAC loses today. Seems like it's their year this year.

Brooks-Irwin should be a classic. Rematch of a regular season game that Irwin won that went down to the wire. Brooks is probably the more complete team though. I saw Brooks put one on a good Dublin team in the 2nd round; they are loaded with athletes across the board and are rolling right now.

I really thought Commerce was gonna get Irwin this year. They’re coming though. Sammy Brown is gonna be a problem in 1A-Public for a few years.

I don’t know much about Brooks other than they’ve been knocking on the door in 2A for several years now and they’ve dominated through the playoffs so far.

They went out in the quarters to Crisp County. It was a rematch of last year’s state title game and I’m sure Crisp was revenge-minded.

Brooks County would probably be in the title game if they were still in 2A this year. They returned pretty much everybody off of last years team that lost the title game to Dublin.

Brooks has always been a small to medium 2A school, but they opened up a separate career academy which enrolls about 100 non-athletes, which was enough to bring Brooks' numbers to 1A level. Basically they are a single A school, but they have 2A and 3A level talent this year.

They hammered Clinch County twice this season- 45-3 in the regular season and 44-0 last week in the semis (our association refereed that game).

Clinch is a 1A power, so that tells me a lot about Brooks.

Dude, I don't know. Friend who knows that program well says they were at full strength, so I think they had all of their guys.

They just got beat.

He played this season with a torn PCL. Will have surgery this week. That's toughness.

Kid has what it takes, and I'm not talking about stats. The physical tools are solid, but the intangibles and competitiveness are off the charts.

I'm more excited about him than I've been about any QB recruit.

I listened to some of that on the radio this afternoon, the whole first half sounded like a shitshow. How did the second half go? Did BVG summon a viking ship enblazened with shivering purple lightning bolts and cascade down the field leaving his enemies in permanent agony?
