We aren't actively recruiting Dent, haven't for a while. We're a hat on a table for him.
Elam is still very much in play, depending on our DC hire.
George Pickens is still an option at WR if he can get qualified.

Admittedly, I haven't heard anything in a while, but where did you get your information?
I am not saying you are wrong, just curious.

From what I've read, it sounds like he'll have to scramble into the summer to get grades/scores, so that's a risky take for UGA. Some of the schools we're competing against probably have an edge because of the things they're willing to do to get a player into school.

The last I heard he was only waiting on a qualifying ACT score.

I'm going to put it this way, for our staff to still be recruiting him as hard as we are this late in the game, they must feel fairly confident in getting him qualified. And do you really think with how cutthroat of a recruiter Kirby is he's playing nice when it comes to getting a kid qualified?

This is what I would like clarification on....where are you getting your information from? I am not saying you are wrong, since you might have access to information I don't have. But you said we are not recruiting Cross and we are still heavily recruiting Pickens.

I have not seen either of these things. Again, not saying you are wrong, just wondering where it is coming from.

Multiple different sources. There is stuff all over the place, especially if you know who is worth listening too and who isn't.

Regarding Cross since you asked, Americus said last week he heard the same thing when I asked him. I assume that's a source you're familiar with?

Regarding Pickens, not even taking into account the insider whispers, there's an article about an interview with him within the last 2 days over on the dawgnation main site where he specifically says LSU and UGA are the two teams recruiting him the hardest right now.

You seem upset that i asked. My intent was not to say you don't know what you are talking about, only to know where you are hearing these things.

I'm not talking about Kirby, I'm talking about UGA. I believe there are several football programs in the SEC that operate with greater latitude when it comes to "stretching the rules". Kirby has changed some things, but the athletic department doesn't run the show at Georgia IMO.

As I understand it, grades and ACT/SAT scores work on a sliding scale. Higher grades mean a lower test score is acceptable and vice versa, so raising either or both could make the difference. I've read that his grades were poor, so I'd guess that he could lower his qualifying test score by raising his grades.

This notion that other schools in the SEC can get a kid qualified with lesser grades/scores is false.

The NCAA clearinghouse determines eligibility. Every SEC school other than Vandy will admit a player who gets through the clearinghouse with no additional academic requirements.

They still have to meet minimum admission standards as determined by the university. Eric Norwood, who went on to be a great player for USC, was rejected from UGA because his GPA was so low. Obviously, if a kid doesn’t meet the minimum standard for the NCAA clearinghouse (used to be 2.0 GPA and an 850 SAT when I was going through), then he isn’t going to any school in the SEC, though there are schools hat are allowed to take partial qualifiers, like Marshall. Honestly, if you can’t qualify through the clearinghouse, then you have no business being in college in the first place.

Basically the Presidents Office gets to determine who it will and won’t let into the University via a special admittance. When they don’t let someone in, it’s usually because they’re too big a risk academically to justify. Of course they have to pass NCAA muster before any of that matters but once they do, it’s then up to the Univ President Office to say yay or nay for guys who ate below profile academically.

I'm cool with that except when we turn down players and they go to Arkansas or elsewhere and are successful.

Regarding Pickens, there’s an article on Dawgnation regarding how the Fields saga is affecting his decision. Seems he and Fields know each other via Cam Newtons 7 on 7 camps. He said this regarding Fields transfer:

quote:

It is kind of a big deal,” Pickens said. “Knowing he is a great player and the No. 1 recruit. So. [Jake] Fromm is kind of good. But like me, if I was to go to Georgia, I feel like it would be more of ‘develop’ years. Not just like playing ball ‘we’ve got a quarterback’ but more of like just focusing on myself. I mean I have no problem with that, but quarterback is needed.”

Reading through the broken English it’s apparent that he doesn’t have a high opinion of Fromm.

This bothers me on a number of fronts, but mostly the bit about the racism crap is freaking over the top. The sooner that cancer is gone, the better. I hope he gets put in tonight and gets heckled and boo’d off the field.

I’m as annoyed as you are with Fields, but booing him hurts the program. UGA is bigger than Fields, I hope the fans show some class and allow an amicable split. It’s best for everyone

I’m over Fields but the dumbest fricking thing UGA fans could do is boo Fields when he plays tonight.

You think it’s a cancer now? Just wait until UGA fans show our arse over it. He will go away in his own but recruits won’t forget us booing one of our own players because he wants to transfer

They aren’t going to. He’s going to get the boo birds.

Whether it’s the high road or not, it’s what is most likely to happen.

Yeah him getting booed would really open the door to a lot of effective negative recruiting, I mean it would be a really bad look to recruits. But this fan base (at least online) has become insufferable lately so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it did happen.

It is what it is, he deserves to be boo'd but at the end of the day he is an amateur and it would be a really, really bad look for our fanbase.

Regarding Pickens/Haselwod, I think we absolutely need to land one of those guys. One thing we're missing is an elite WR. We have some nice, physical WR'S but what we need is a first round WR who can take over a game and provide Fromm a nice security blanket. Wims was incredible in his last year and I think having an NFL caliber receiver would get us back to the level we were at in 2017-2018.

We have plenty of stud DB's, so Stevenson would be a nice get but we need a WR more.

One part of me sees your point. The other part of me feels the “amicable” went out the window when Fields played the racism card in an attempt to get a hardship waiver. It is bogus and everyone with half a brain knows it. And I don’t think for a minute (given his attitude after the
SC game), that he has ever been a team player who had the teams best interest at heart, only his, and that he should start despite not being the best qualified, well “best qualified” be damned.

You didn't watch much Dawg football this year did you? All our WR's stepped up and made all the plays. Next year we're looking at
Riley Ridley - Elite - will play on Sundays
Jeremiah Holloman - Elite
Mecole Hardman - Elite
Demetris Robertson - Gonna shut a lot of folks up next year
Dominick Blaylock - 5* 6'1 190, sure looked elite in games I saw
Tommy Bush - 6'5 191 with break away speed
Kearis Jackson - will take over if Mecole break for the NFL

We're good right now at WR no matter what happens.

That card hasn't been played yet. Only speculated that he will.
