After all the baloney of 2018-19 is done, Fields and Fromms teams finished #3 and #4. Fromm has never had gaudy stats, just good wins. Fields had some good stats and good wins, but he came up short in the Playoff and couldn't pull out a win with his arm or legs.

Glad we had Fromm as QB. Wish we had more experience and consistency at WR for his last season but we can’t change the past. Looking forward to 2020.

OK. Still would have rather have had Fields this past season and next season. Here's to Newman being that dynamic player we have been missing. Fromm was a good college QB, but not a guy that can carry a team. He was in fact a game manager. We could do a lot worse, buy a also a lot better. Let's hope it is better going forward.

I petition that all future Fields vs Fromm threads have a disclaimer in the title so I can avoid clicking on it.

I don't disagree but wasn't this one pretty obvious from the title: "2019 QB Saga" Feels like a pretty accurate depiction of what you were in for.

There is no one on the planet outside of a few delusional folks in Georgia who would suggest that Fields isn’t a vastly superior QB.

The ultimate in irony would be Newman taking home the Heisman.

Not talked about now but will be after spring game.

Heisman is Fields to lose next year if he stays healthy.

The payoff for us is if UGA is a better team and wins the Natty over OSU.

Here's the question I was pondering:

If we have Fields at QB in 2019, does Kirby still see a need make the staff and philosophy changes to move the program forward?

If this offense is great and Newman gets drafted UGA is the leader for almost QB recruit we want & with the way this state produces signal callers we could field a top 3 QB in the country nearly every year.

Could that entire debacle actually end up a long term positive for the program?

This is more or less what I was discussing with a couple of buddies offline.

No matter what side of the Fields issue you come down on, the reality is that Fields is gone after 2020 season - meaning the net net would be that Fields had to win a Natty in 2019 (don't believe he was powering us to one in 2018) or 2020... And then you're in the same boat:

1) Reality: Status Quo - We lose Fields to transfer like we did, we finish the 2019 season ranked 4th after a loss to LSU in the SECCG. Fromm declares for the draft. We have to fill QB spot in 2020 with grad transfer (or youngster) and are *probably* looking for an elite QB to join us in 2021 to backfill.

2) Mythical alternate reality: We pull the plug on the Fromm show at some point (mid LSU game maybe?), insert Fields in 2018. Maybe we beat Alabama in Atlanta, but given the young defense in 2018 likely still get drummed by Clemson in the NCG pending getting there in the first place. Then, 2019 happens... but Coley is coordinator with Justin Fields and a pod of receivers that are less than stellar. Do we realistically see that combo as being good enough to take down LSU in Atlanta? I personally wouldn't.

I think we are a better team in 2019 with Fields over Fromm (probably a worse team in 18, but neither here nor there)... but not better enough to knock off LSU, and making the playoffs only to face them again would have been worse for the program perception (extra loss, 2x losses to "good teams" furthering the "can't win the big one" mantra). THEN... after all that, you have one more season of Fields and you're looking to replace him in 2021... and I'm not sure Kirby feels the need to go out and make the hire he just made without the pressure he felt coming off the last 2 seasons.

It's all speculation, but legitimately, keeping Fields just doesn't further the program substantially IMO. Worse still, maybe Fields makes Coley look like a good coordinator, and we don't officially know we're in deep shite there until 2021 with a freshman QB.

It's late. I'm drunk. Go Dawgs!

But there appears to be quite a few that didn't realize he didn't fit the offensive scheme our HC was putting him in. I just wish we had made the Monken hire before Fromm decided to go pro. He would have been terrific in 2020 with the WR corps we will have.

That's a pretty good assessment.

I dont know that fields in 2018 gives us a better chance against Bama (the opposite in my opinion).

But in 2019 I do see a mobile QB being able to do a little bit more for our run game with the deficiencies that we had with the WRs. Would fields have been better passing than Fromm? That's debatable with the WRs. But Fromm had a few coverage sacks during the season and probably fields is the type if QB who can at least move enough to throw it away.

How did Fields not fit the offense? Explain that.

Fromm was aware of the potential hire, but he was done with the demands of being the uga Qb.

I am glad Kirby is trying to correct the mistake he made in 2018 by getting a player very similar to fields: Good size, can run, very accurate downfield.

In a perfect world for UGA, Fields could’ve been redshirted as some suggested and probably would’ve gotten substantial time this season as a RS Freshman and been the man next year. But with the personalities and egos involved this was never going to happen. I don’t blame him either because the Ohio State move obviously worked out well for him as he’ll definitely get drafted next year.

Burrow should be the poster boy for what can happen if you take as much time as you can in college to craft your game and improve your stock.
