Lazy would be a terrible word to describe Richts approach to recruiting. Richt worked hard, very hard...however, Kirby is relentless. Absolutely relentless.

Richt didn’t have the advantages that Kirby does. He dealt with a cheap administration. Look at our support staff, salaries for assistants, and upgraded facilities. UGA has finally decided to get serious. The difference between Richt and Kirby is Richt didn’t push for it. At different times, he had the leverage to pull it off.

Yeah but whose fault is that? Richt would not push and you gotta push to get what you want. Kirby is a pusher, Richt wasn’t.

Richt was content with 8-10 win seasons every year. Kirby is not.

Kirby is many things but a pusher is not one of them. Kirby is to smart to push. He knows how to play the game to his advantage. He fills up as many spots as quickly as he can and then offers limited space...call the Facebook effect. Y’all remember how Facebook become so popular. Limited space and invite only.
The other trick is to target a leader early and let them start car callin’. Look at richard Lecounte and that WR from Tucker whose name is fleeting me now.

Other than the kid that flipped to Auburn because he said Kirby and Co. were too aggressive and pushy? We are not counting that, right?

Who was the Auburn flipper? Was he pushed or did he jump? So tragic to see a promising life end.
Posted on 1/28/18 at 7:24 pm to Barstools
If you are making this up, then no, we aren't gonna count it.

I wouldnt trust an 18 year old kid to define the word push. They tend to not fully understand what words really mean.
Kirby is insanely smart and I can promise you he knows better than to push kids and try to force their hand to make a decision.
He will make them a priority and develop relationships with them but he isn’t out there giving kids ultimatums and nagging like a woman.

Maraviest Bryant last year.

What could Georgia have done better to sign him? Apply less pressure, Bryant said. Recruit him less. Yes, that’s right. Georgia recruited him harder than any other school. It wasn’t even close.
quote:
"I’ll just be honest here,” Bryant said. “I don’t mean to talk bad about anyone here. I mean that. But it was too much pressure. It was good pressure now. They were showing they wanted me. Real bad. Getting everybody to recruit me. This wasn’t bad pressure. It was good pressure. But at the same time if they would have laid off just a little bit and not bombarded me with that good pressure, then I would have been there.”
Doubt that? Well, Bryant would later say that Smart and lead recruiter Kevin Sherrer were the hardest people to say no to along his decision.
“It was a numbers game with Georgia,” Bryant said. “They needed to know if I was in or out. They signed like 25 or 26 guys. The numbers game was there with Georgia. They had to apply that pressure to see if they had room. The other two schools just sat back and waited for what I wanted to do.”

Bryant on Georgia- yeah they kept on calling and recruiting me- numbers were tight so they needed to know in/out.
Bryant on Florida - yeah they stopped calling so i dropped them.
Welcome to recruiting

Yeah, how many kids drop a school because they "don't be feelin' da love" as much as other schools? Often I see that as code for ego stroking deficiency.

Right. I'll be honest here too. That entire interview is complete horseshite, IMO. "Dawgnation" once again proves that their only goal is to give rivals and opponents a public forum to take shots at UGA. And then they set up "SEC Country" for other SEC schools to toot their own horn. Kirby should go to the editor and tell them their privileges are revoked at UGA practices, games, press conferences, etc.

There is some truth to that in regards to Seth and Chip, but I like BA and Jeff Sentell. BA is as big a homer as anybody covering the DAWGS

I like the homer in BA...but frick me his broadcasting style reeks of an author who owes his editor 300k words and gives 900k just to be safe. The subject could successfully have been beaten to death in 150k. Lots of filler and spirals.
