If the 20 figure is correct (no reason to believe it isn't), then 4 would be accurate. Marvin (the kicker) was a blueshirt, meaning he takes one away from the 25 total in 2018.

Nice find on that Bush quote as well.

So we're limited this year despite all those seniors?

A lot of those seniors everyone likes to bring up were walk-ons

Never thought I would get aroused reading that board, but here I am, trying not to stand up in public after doing so.

See statement re: walkons. Regardless, the recruiting limit of 25 signees per year has nothing to do with the total athletes on the roster. We do have to stay at or under 85 scholarshipped athletes at any given time, but the limits for the 2018 class are unlikely to be related to the 85, and rather the 25... specifically 1 fewer available due to the blue shirt (pushes a signee hit "forward" in terms of counting, even though they're on the roster earlier).

The new rule is 25 per year max. No more back counting.

Margin of error there. I was only on my second pot of coffee at that post I think. I'm awake now.

Rules change, and it won't be this way going forward, but we were allowed to count Marvin back to 17.
We can sign 25. No clue why people are predicting 22-24. I see 24 under a certain scenario, but my board has 25.
Now is where the 85 comes in....

The change of this hard cap rule, most importantly with no back filling ability, will cripple programs.

Just watch

Been mentioning that you'd hear names off the radar for a while. Starting to see a few of those names pop up on other boards.
Good day to recruit!

Haven't seen any of those so far. Are you mentioning names for us, or for other schools who might be missing on targets we are also going for?

And it's amazing what a calming presence I feel when it comes to recruiting now. Kirby's just gonna get who he wants, and if he misses on occasion, then we're going to have a 4 star waiting in the wings who is happy to hop on board. It's a fantastic feeling.

Until they offered, I had no clue who he was, but if that 40 is legit.... Sign him up

Okay, I'll admit it - I'm confused. Backups for us because we're not getting folks we want on our A List, or backup plans for other schools because Kirby takes all the 'croots?

After early signing period, we'll have a few spots open that we chase after.
Point being, if any or all of the 3,4,5 were zeroing in on fall through, we're still good (backups).

Plan B's for the late signing period.

I'm not holding you to it or anything, was just qualifying my comment...

which apparently was unnecessary...

any idea how? Did he somehow get Wyatt's spot once he didn't qualify? Wyatt's 2017 spot has been the outstanding question I've had for a while. Seems like that would add some wiggle room...

It's a bit of a ridiculous rule IMO... it's going to make evals critical, also, it benefits teams with already deeper rosters who are able to redshirt players and keep them off the field longer. Also, schools that have a better walk-on program with benefits provided via scholarship programs like HOPE (or Alabama's merit program) will likely have an easier time of weathering the storm of early draft departures when they inevitably happen. I'm very curious to see how long some of these rule changes last. The schools that pushed for them may regret it.
