I assume we’re losing badly with how quiet the thread is.

5-4 USC, Bottom 7. Dawgs have runners at 2nd and 3rd, no outs.

6-5 UGA. Top 8. UGA walks the lead-off batter... our bullpen is going to frick this one up.
Edit: We turned two! Two outs, nobody on. Top 8.

Going to the bottom half of the inning up 6-5. We need insurance runs here, boys.

Schunk hits into a 6-4-3 DP to end the inning, but the Dawgs add 1. Going to T9 up 7-5.

Schunk moves from 3rd base to the pitchers mound. Strikes out 2 en route to getting his 1st career save. Dawgs win!

Do we get happy about this or are we getting Richted and Foxed by a decent season?

I’ll never pull for a loss, but we’re NOT a good team this year. We have some good pieces but our pen is atrocious. The wheels will come off when we play good SEC teams. uSC just isn’t that good this year.

This. We may win just enough over bad or mediocre teams to slip by with an overall record slightly above .500 and an RPI good enough to get us into the NCAA tournament but good teams are going to eat our pen alive. Schunk and Kristofak are our only truly servicable relief pitchers, Elliot is a solid mid-week starter, Adkins is a decent starter but not really a Friday ace, Hancock and Webb are talented but still too young to be reliable Saturday-Sunday guys. Everyone else in the pen struggles to get by (Smith and Locey have been pretty disappointing thus far given their talent).
Fortunately, our bats are actually pretty decent this year. We're not going to be the best hitting team in a stacked league like the SEC but I'd venture a guess that we're firmly in the top half overall. Problem is you can't rely on your bats to get you 9 runs a game in this conference just to have a hope to win. If you can barely muster 6 against Carolina, you're probably only going to get 3 or 4 against a team like Florida and I'm not going to put a lot of faith in our arms to limit the opposition to only 2 or 3 runs.

but we’re NOT a good team this year.

Is it too early to believe?
I mean, we haven’t played any of the ranked 9 programs in the SEC yet....lol
