I feel very strongly about us being a national seed after this weekend, and if things go right in Hoover, and other chips fall, I think we have a shot at the #1 overall seed. Its not a huge shot. Would need Florida to go two and done, but its possible.
I also feel strongly that we will have a northern team in our bracket. The Big 10 is having a strong year, and could get up to 5 teams. Then you have UCONN, Northeaster, and St John's having good years. Plus, the committee is always going to put Florida teams in Florida. Texas teams in Texas. The teams in the Carolina's are going to be together, and the west coast teams will be together if they arent in the same conference.

Big question is how we handle this week: go all out to win the conference tourney or sleep walk until Regionals? Nobody on the team has ever played a regional before and we’ve got some young arms who have never thrown a college season let alone a postseason. So what is going to be best long term for the program? Really nothing to gain other than a trophy and slightly better seeding by making a run through Hoover. But then do you lose this momentum you’ve built up if you go 2 and Q in Hoover and sit around waiting for June 1st?

You have to win the first game no matter what. After that, you can afford to rest guys, but I would still pitch our starters. Maybe only go 4-5 innings, but they need to do something. 2 weeks with no in game throwing is not a recipe for success.

Win the first game. Lock in that national seed. After that, then maybe look at shutting down some arms or putting guys on really strict pitch counts for the regionals, but you don't want guys just sitting around and not throwing waiting for the regionals to roll around.

I disagree. It would help, but I don't think we "have" to win it.

I would LIKE to win the first game just so we don't go 0-fer, but we've pretty much locked up waht we want and 1 more is just cherry on top. I would prefer us not go balls to the wall trying to win the whole thing then be worn out by regionals. And honestly looking at our regional projections we should be in pretty darn good shape there anyway. IMO, everythign we do beginning today should be with a focus on the supers.

You dont want to go 0-2 and sweat out the possibility of being a national seed.
Florida-mortal lock for national seed. best resume in country
Stanford/Oregon State-locks as well. The committee will want two west coast teams in there
North Carolina/Clemson/Florida State/North Carolina State-Almost guaranteed that two ACC teams will be national seeds. Three isnt out of the question.
Thats 5
Georgia/Ole Miss/Arkansas-no way the SEC gets all three as national seeds. Georgia goes 0-2 and the other two do well, Georgia will slide.
The last spot
Texas Tech/Stetson/Minnesota-One of those will get the final spot.

That’s fine. I just think saying we have to win game one is a little dramatic.

Its not being dramatic. I just laid out the most likely scenario for us not to be a national seed, and its easy to get to if the team goes 0-2.

I don't follow baseball.
Could someone give me Cliffs on this season and the overall state of the program?

Well we went from not making the postseason for 4 years to being a top 5 team

After 4 straight losing seasons we finished 3rd in the SEC and are poised to host a regional in the NCAA tournament and, possibly, a super regional as a national seed.
In other words, Fire Stricklin.

Same coach all five years?
ETA. When I say I don't follow BB, I mean it. Sorry for the ignorant question.
