Oh I agree. I don't know how many folks here follow the NBA, but this reminds me a ton of the Dwyane Wade-Pat Riley situation from this summer.

Both sides were hoping the other would swallow pride and do something that nobody realistically thought they would. Carter was hoping we would shuffle our EE's to make room and Georgia was hoping he would just suck it up and change his plans. Understandably, neither would budge.

He graduates in December so there's not much he can do. He will be enrolling somewhere in Jan

It does tend to come down to an ego thing. I would love to have Carter. I wish there was something that could be done, but I suspect Kirby has looked at this from every angle.

Personally, I think this is a good look for us by comparison. We were super transparent in our thinking and action. It's not like we held this offer out until someone else that we held in higher regard committed to us. The scholarship numbers didn't work out due to an unforeseen variable of current players returning. We then reached back out to the committed player and let him know that we couldn't give him the EE spot.

This is 100% understandable and any recruit, teammates, or coaches would be foolish to think otherwise.

But it will look bad when Gibbs commits and gets an EE spot

Understood. I could have graduated in December, but we were in the playoffs, so I stayed in school. One week into the new quarter we got beat in the playoffs. I decided to just stay in school and take easy classes. I stayed and relaxed....taking that time to work out and get ready for college. He could do the same.

I suspect it comes down to what Branchdawg said....ego. Any time you play, coach or anything at that level, there is a certain amount of ego involved.

Actually, what will look worse is if Gibbs doesn't commit and enroll.

I know what you are saying, but Gibbs, overall is a higher priority. Again. I wish it could be worked out. Who knows? maybe by February it will be worked out.

Can't we just cheat on EEs and, if caught, claim that we suck at addition?

It's pretty easy to calculate the correct number, and if we did get caught down the road I imagine the penalty would be forfeiting any wins he participated in.

There's some smoke about a committed 5* potentially flipping to the Dawgs on 247. Not sure if there's legs to this or who it could be. Any ideas?

Well, Radi tweeted one of his infamous cryptic "stay tuned" tweets after the Carter decommitment, so I'm holding my breath.

Ya our RB depth is not an issue...our elite DB depth is non-existent.

I hate we didn't get the guy, but lets face it We need Gibss more than we need Carter.

Not getting my hopes up, but a flip from Jacoby Stevens would be beyond welcome with our DB depth. I'm thinking it's either him or Jamyest Williams that are being referenced with the flip talk.

EE's allow you to "count back" a certain number of scholarships. Basically, each recruiting class has a 25 player cap on it. SO in this scenario, let's say in 2015 you signed 22 players, no one enrolled early. In 2016 you signed 24 and 3 of those enrolled early, so you could roll 3 onto the 2015 class. Now, in 2017, you have room for 4 EE's and a class of up-to 29 players. Greyshirts and all that stuff don't apply, but it was basically a rule against guys like Houston Nutt who once signed a class of like 26 kids with 20 roster spots available

I appreciate the effort and I understand counting back. But there is no rule that any EEs have to count back. They can all count to 2017. Some of the information out there is a red herring.

My guess is that numbers are tight on the 85 count, and we don't need 7 scholarship running backs for 2017 (I'm still counting Tae Crowder as a RB since he is still getting a scholarship).

I'm a little ssurprised we didn't process some older guys to make room. Makes me think that it may have been more of a soft push to look elsewhere.

I would MUCH rather it be Jacoby Stevens. Would certainly take Jamyest, but prefer Jacoby.

Dammit Dallas, you show up 5 posts late and none of the veterans bothered to tell me the rules...

Good thing my mojo is rising.
