If we add Laguins and Robertson
Laguins is already added in if you look at the list. If you key him in again it just adds him to list twice & his points to the current points twice. But adding DRob would still give us the current #5 class...

FWIW
Where did you see this?

No doubt. As I said, not remotely disappointed in the class as a whole. Great job, particularly given the circumstances. Simply a big need that wasn't addressed, so seems like it was a little bit of "too little too late" with the big guys this year. If Pittman can do some good work with the guys on campus (especially Cleveland and Barnes), it will be a nice signature statement for him going into next year's recruiting class. The key there is, they can't hang their hat on 1-3 elite guys. The need to focus on in state talent, then cherry pick a few from outside. The net needs to be wide, because inevitably there will be some misses at OL.

A real OT was a big need
No doubt and no argument.

so missing hurts,
I'm not entirely certain we DID miss, though. Greg Pyke, one of our better OL the last couple of years was a 3*. OL is is very tough to gauge. And, our OL coach is one of the best in the country. We just might surprise you.

but time to focus on who they can get in 2017
Absolutely. Let's build some much needed depth next year.

They rarely turn out well, honestly.
Butch Jones, who has recruited well at Tennessee despite having very limited success, signed the 24th ranked class when he took over. They had four 4-star players, eighteen 3-star players, and three players rated 2-stars or below. They signed 25 players total.
Hugh Freeze, who also recruits very well despite not winning anything of significance in several years at Ole Miss, had the 47th ranked class in the country when he took over. They signed one 5-star player, two 4-star players, twelve 3-star players, and three players rated 2-stars or below. They signed 18 players.
Jim McElwain's first class was ranked 21st in the country with two 5-star players, three 4-star players, and sixteen 3-star players. They signed 21 players total.
Nick Saban's first class at Alabama was ranked 13th in the country. They signed 5 four-star players, 19 3-star players, and 7 players rated 2-stars or below. They signed 31 players that year (old fashioned over-signing was crazy) and many of them eventually left the program after recruiting took off the next year. This class was much more about quantity than quality.
Harbaugh's first class at Michigan was ranked 37th in the country. They signed 14 players total, six 4-star players and eight 3-star players.
As of 4 pm on NSD, Kirby Smart's first class is ranked 7th in the country. He has signed three 5-star players (with a shot at a fourth within the next 10 days), ten 4-star players, and seven 3-star players. So far we have signed 20 players in total, and may finish with 21 (you win, Rusty).
After this staff has a full year to recruit, they will put together a MONSTER class.
Post from 247 board on signing transition classes.
TLDR: It's really hard to do.

I didn't realize that. I didn't think they would add Laguins until he was officially signed. Seems weird. I knew adding Robertson was a big bump in points. I was surprised at how many points he added.
Now all we have to do is sign him!

Just to play Devil's Advocate....but all the other programs mentioned were in pretty bad shape when they changed coaches. We were winning 10 games a season and Richt left us with MOST of the players we signed in this class. I consider this Richt's class and next year more Smart's class.
Don't get me wrong...all the credit in the world to Smart for keeping this class together. And I am excited about the possibilities going into next year. I think Smart will do a great job.

No doubt. Better situation than most, but holding on to Richt's guys (especially Eason) was a feat. Usually the old commitments are mostly gone.

That's what makes it even MORE impressive. He was able to retain an already strong class even with 90% staff turnover.

Good recap.
If Pittman can work wonders with the guys on campus, then we're in better shape than I expected for Year 1 of the Smart era. If not, it just means that guys from 17 will have to come in ready to contribute.
Overall, I was shocked we were as "in it" with a lot of these guys as we were. Too much of the "expect surprises" nonsense happens leading up, when in reality, nothing was terribly surprising today (at least for us) other than maybe not landing EJ. The upside to all of this is: there are plenty of spots left for next year, assuming they can land a significant number of EEs.

Absolutely. The future is definitely looking bright.
I don't think we lost a single player we "knew" was coming here. Smart did a heckuva job.

I'm happy with who we signed today. I kinda look at it like this, if Brown has to have that much attention that he jumped to Auburn over a recruiting slight then what kind of teammate would he have been? Then the story that Price was caught doing something wrong by Richt almost makes me wonder if keeping him around wouldn't be problematic. Yeah it's reaching but I'm trying to put a positive spin on the whole thing.

This sounds like sour grapes man.
We didn't land Brown...whatever the reason doesn't matter. Consider the circumstances and move on. Good luck to the kid, would have loved to have him in Athens.
EJ situation is just weird. Whatever happened with Richt still here is still an issue obviously, but either way, UGA will be fine.
On to to 2017

Today does not call for spin. Today was a good day, no spin necessary.

- While we definitely needed OTs, the argument can be made that skill positions were the most needed to be filled with quality talent and we did that with Eason at QB, Nauta, Ridley, Wims, Simmons, Woerner, etc. I feel really good about getting a few really good skill players to help Eason. Big success.
- We got much needed depth on defense. Carter, Clark, Rochester, and not to mention the top athlete in the country will likely be playing DB for us. I feel confident that the DTs we got are very very good quality. Missing on Brown hurt but we are still fine on the defensive line.
- EJ Price is the big miss and the most painful miss today as he could've been a true OT for us. I have absolutely no idea where USC came from to land him. I'm honestly still scratching my head as to how that happened. However, we still got Cleveland, Barnes, and Kindley...a lot of size and potential there but this group was a little disappointing finishing out.
- We signed a legit, All-American punter. I'm sick of mediocre special teams and am thrilled we tossed out a scholly to a good looking punter. Big win here.
- We still might lock down D-Rob which would be the cherry on top of a very successful first class for Kirby (not really his but you get it).

You're probably right, I've been annoyed with the whole Brown situation for a while now.

Well said.
Considering how well Kirby did with a short window makes me think that 2017 is going to be an awesome year for recruiting, provided we can back it up on the field.
But our D line class is filthy, we filled needs at WR, got one of the better RB's in the country, got the best QB in the nation, best athlete in the nation...This class is special. Still have D Rob in play as well.
The only wish I had left for 16 was for one more offensive lineman. For some reason we always have trouble signing o line guys..strange.
